Mommies in Oki. Here’s an up to date list of Island Doulas available for Postpartum care. 🥰

Due to the global pandemic and movement restrictions, many service members and contractors are unable to return home to their families in Okinawa. This means that parents all over the island are now facing birth, postpartum and parenting alone. We know that you are strong, capable and resourceful and we also believe that all parents are worthy of support and reassurance. That is why we want to share about our postpartum Doulas and postpartum support services for families on Island.

What does a postpartum Doula do??

“Postpartum doulas provide families information and support on infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from childbirth, infant soothing, and coping skills for new parents. They might also help with light housework, fix a meal and help incorporate an older child into this new experience.”

Each Doula is different but support in the postpartum period can include; Evidence based support in infant and self care, informational support, advocacy, referrals, household help and more.

🗣 Mammas. ‼️Please be aware of the change in policy at Naval Hospital for Cesarean Births.

Please feel free to reach out to me for questions and concerns about cesarean deliveries without your partners support. I’m happy to help any way I can.

Notice of Temporary Policy Change during Operative (Cesarean) Deliveries at USNH Okinawa

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic crisis in the United States, the need for consumable surgical and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplies has never been greater. Out of an abundance of caution, in order to limit the potential for cross contamination in the operating room environment and to conserve supplies, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Mother Infant Care Center are adjusting normal policy and restricting access to the Operating room during planned deliveries to medical personal only.

While we recognize the inconvenience and potential emotional impact of not having a designated family member present during these procedures, it is paramount that we protect our staff and minimize use of our valuable resources. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding during this unprecedented time.

Wash 🧼 Hands people! 😷

This afternoon, the Okinawa Prefectural Government confirmed the first positive case of coronavirus (COVID-19) here on Okinawa, a local citizen who lives in Naha. As with any public health concern, U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa continues to monitor this evolving situation closely and work with Japanese health officials to ensure the health of our force in Okinawa. Currently, there have been no identified cases nor any suspected cases of the new coronavirus identified among U.S. service members or their family members here at USNH Okinawa.

To stay safe, continue to follow the same precautions you use to fight the common cold or flu:
-Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
-Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
-Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.

If you have returned from China in the last month and if you begin to feel sick, it is vital you call U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa’s Preventive Medicine Department at 090-6861-5230 prior to coming to the hospital or any clinic.

As it is currently cold and flu season, people who have not traveled to China who are suffering a respiratory illness should not assume it is novel coronavirus. It is far more likely to be a more common malady.

😃 This is such a great visual of what’s happening inside your body and how slight movements make a difference in the space available for baby to fit through. 🙌🏼
