✨CHALLENGES✨

Some are daunting, others unexpected; but they’re definitely not something you can escape from if you want more resilience in your organization.

Here are 3 positive actions you need to make to get through workplace stress and boost employee well-being.

Corporate Wellness advice to stay away from. ⬇️

- Ignoring mental health until it becomes a crisis.

- Assuming employee well-being is separate from business success.

- Treating mental health initiatives as a one-time event rather than an ongoing strategy.

A better way to think about this is integrating mental health initiatives into the overall company culture.

Try shifting your mindset towards viewing employee well-being as a crucial factor in achieving long-term success instead of a short-term fix.

Oop! Do we HATE this?πŸ‘‡

The misconception that addressing mental health in the workplace is a luxury, not a necessity.

Have you heard this before?

Well, it irritates us. Here’s why…

πŸ’‘It undermines the proven link between employee well-being and productivity.

πŸ’‘It perpetuates the stigma around mental health, hindering open conversations.

πŸ’‘It neglects the long-term cost savings associated with reduced burnout and turnover.

Not only does this misbelief hinder workplace culture, but it can also hinder business success.

Instead, a better way would be to say, β€œPrioritizing mental health is an investment in our team’s resilience and long-term success” [or what they really mean is β€œA mentally healthy workforce is a thriving workforce”].

These approaches contribute to a healthier work environment and foster a sense of camaraderie among virtual teams.

Remember, the little efforts often greatly impact employee engagement and well-being.

These approaches are cost-effective and can be implemented with minimal resources.

The key is to make wellness activities accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable for virtual employees.

Happy Friday πŸŽ‰

Who’s ready for the weekend?

Here are 8 ways to rest up over the weekend after a busy work week:

1. Disconnect from work emails and notifications.
2. Indulge in a good book or podcast for a mental escape.
3. Engage in a mindful meditation to reset your mind.
4. Take a nature walk to rejuvenate your body and soul.
5. Practice a hobby or creative activity you love.
6. Reconnect with loved ones for social nourishment.
7. Prioritize quality sleep.
8. Explore a new recipe and savor a homemade meal.

Employee wellness is the heartbeat of every organization.

3 reasons to prioritize it:

1. Enhanced productivity

2. Improved morale and engagement

3. Reduced absenteeism and turnover

Let’s face it...

In today’s job market, employees are prioritizing their mental health over EVERYTHING!

If you want to keep good talent, you have to SHOW your employees that you value their mental health.

There’s 1 thing we’ve seen destroy more productivity in people than anything else:

Burnout.

If you focus more on what others expect than self-care, you will be tempted to:

- Neglect your well-being
- Sacrifice personal time
- Overextend yourself
- Prioritize work over health
- Ignore mental health warning signs

Burnout will destroy you.
Not everyone will understand or appreciate you.
Be mindful, not overwhelmed.
You can’t pour from an empty cup.

I am not okay.

I’m not okay because Dr. Antoinette Bonnie Candia-Bailey was not okay.

And maybe you’ve been living under a rock this past week, so Google her name if you’re unaware.

I’m not okay because she is not alone.

There are far too many individuals facing EXACTLY what she was facing, and they have to go to work this week in extremely toxic work environments.

Their voices of mental anguish will go unheard.

Their plee to HR about their abuse will be dismissed.

Their cry out for someone to recognize their pain will go unnoticed.

I AM NOT OKAY!

When will TRUE wellness be brought to the workplace?

How many more lives need to be taken before employers and leaders of these organizations begin to value their employees mental health?

I will continue to scream WORKPLACE WELLNESS and EMPLOYEE MENTAL HEALTH until a change happens.

I am not okay.

The issue with corporate wellness programs is that...- HR personnel use EAP as a check box to say they are offering something to employees

- Employees aren't interested in "doing" anything when they are outside of work

- Companies are wasting endless dollars on useless programs that are unused by employees!

This is how we approach corporate wellness differently

- We don't function as a referral, we function as an internal resource INSIDE of your workplace

- Your employees don't have to visit a website or 1800 number to access our services; we are actively present INSIDE your workplace

- We use qualitative and quantitative data to track and alter our services to meet your employee needs

We do things differently over here! We are not a check box; we are a solution.

We spoke to a CEO recently who shared that they offer their employees yoga OUTSIDE of the workplace. They explained that they partner with some corporate yoga company and their staff can access free and discounted classes after work hours.

Our question to them was, "So, are your employees attending?"

Their response was, "No, I don't feel they attend any wellness practices we offer outside of the workplace".

Our response and solution to them was to bring wellness INSIDE the workplace.

The benefit of offering employees wellness solutions INSIDE the workplace vs. referring them OUTSIDE is that the engagement rate increases.

Oh, and you actually get what you pay for!

01/09/2024

Corporate wellness initiatives need to offer less of this...1. Depending on "challenges" for employee engagement
2. Mental health support OUTSIDE of the work setting
3. Relying only on EAP
4. Offering things employees don't participate in
5. Digital offerings only (nothing in person)

and more of this...

1. Regularly scheduled mental health training
2. Hands-on mental health workshops
3. Mind and body focused classes
4. Company retreats
5. Somatic stress release tools

ATTENTION HR Professionals and CEO's !!What metrics are you using to track the impact of the wellness programs you offer your employees?

I am finding that many organizations are offering wellness programs to employees but have no metrics in place to track

-its benefits
-employee participation
-impact on work performance

This needs to change, asap!

In many school systems, the schools have resources INSIDE the school that support students' mental health (school counselor, social worker, etc.). But where is the in-house mental health support for teachers?

Recent statistical data is showing that more teachers and principals are experiencing stress, burnout, and depression. Poor teacher wellness and mental health are linked with lower-quality student learning environments.

We have to do better by our teachers!

01/03/2024

Since we have pivoted our private practice from working with 1:1 counseling clients to now solely serving the corporate wellness arena, we have not lost sight of the individualized approach needed for effective mental health support. While the dynamics have shifted from personal counseling sessions to a more corporate setting, the core principles remain unchanged. We've adapted our expertise to cater to the unique challenges faced by employees within the workplace.

Recognizing the broader impact on a group level, we've focused on developing targeted programs that address not only immediate concerns but also contribute to the overall well-being of the workforce. This shift allows us to have a more widespread impact on mental health within organizations.

We may not be sitting across from individuals in a counseling room anymore, but we have gained the ability to influence and contribute to a healthier, more supportive work environment. Through workshops, training sessions, and tailored programs, we are fostering a culture of well-being within corporate settings. The transition has been fulfilling as we witness the positive changes in the collective mental health of employees under this new approach.

Annually, pulls the demographics to see what population we serve the most and what mental health diagnoses we treat the most in those populations. At the end of 2022, our data showed that we treated professionals in education, healthcare, hospitality, and technology the most.

The most common diagnoses among this group were anxiety, depression, and work-related stress.

We are NOT happy to report that this data was also valid in our annual report in 2021, 2020...and yes, this year 2023 as well.

In 2024, we have to do better in supporting the mental health of our employees.

This is why we completely shifted to focus solely on corporate wellness solutions, specifically mental health initiatives in the workplace.

The data doesn't lie. There is a STRONG need for more organizations to prioritize their team's mental health.

As an employee, you need less- accrued sick days- wellness apps
- external HR referred mental health resources

and more
- access to a dedicated mental health professional on the job
- company-sponsored wellness days
- education about mental health

This looks like your employer offering
- in-house mental health support
- company-sponsored wellness days
- hands-on mental health workshops

12/27/2023

We recently had a conversation with an HR professional who shared concerns about the increasing stress levels among employees. Our question to them was, "What specific challenges are you noticing in terms of employee mental health, and how do you think we can address them effectively?"

They answered, "We've observed a rise in burnout and an increase in employee callouts. Employees are struggling to maintain work-life balance, especially with remote work becoming more prevalent. We need solutions that can provide support in both professional and personal aspects of their lives."

Our solution/ response was to implement a comprehensive employee assistance program that includes virtual counseling sessions, stress management workshops, and resources for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. To bring mental health support directly into the workplace, we can organize on-site wellness sessions, lunch-and-learn workshops, and mental health awareness campaigns. This approach not only provides accessible resources but also helps destigmatize mental health discussions within the workplace culture. Additionally, incorporating mindfulness and resilience training into our wellness initiatives can empower employees to better cope with stressors. We can create a more supportive and mentally healthy work environment by addressing the immediate concerns and fostering long-term resilience.

What would have been your response or solution to their challenges?
