If you HAVE to shovel the white stuff today, here’s how to do it if you’re recovering from an injury and in the strengthening phase of your rehab:
Warm up with gentle range of motion only stretches, maybe even a hot pack before you go out and hydrate before you start. Obv wear as much support as you can (sport tape, brace, workout gloves, whatever is appropriate for your injury) and be mindful of your grip (don’t grip super tightly with the fingers, keep wrist in neutral as often as you reasonably can). Smaller shovelfuls and take your time/go slowly and pay attention to your injury if it starts to hurt. Take short rest breaks (like you would between sets) more often than you think you need them. And if it’s truly a LOT, break the task up over hours (or even days if that’s on option). If you’re sore after, pls ice (don’t skip it bc you’ve been out in the cold); inflammation sets in slowly so you want to head it off at the pass a few hours later. Basically, treat it like an exercise session for your injury and not a marathon to endure. 🙃 Good luck all & enjoy the snow! ❄️
