🐎 Equine Chiropractor vs. Equine Bodyworker — What’s the Difference? 🐴
Horse owners often hear the terms chiropractic care and bodywork used interchangeably, but they actually address different aspects of your horse’s health.
Certified Equine Chiropractor
✔ Advanced training in spinal biomechanics and joint motion
✔ Performs precise adjustments to restore normal joint movement
✔ Evaluates the nervous system and musculoskeletal function
✔ Is a licensed veterinarian or human chiropractor with additional certification
✔ Trained to recognize when chiropractic care is appropriate — and when another medical issue may be present
✔ Most certified equine chiropractors are also trained in soft tissue techniques such as myofascial release and muscle work, allowing them to address both joints and surrounding tissues
Equine Bodyworker
✔ Focuses primarily on soft tissue such as muscles and fascia
✔ Techniques may include massage, stretching, or myofascial work
✔ Can help reduce muscle tension and improve relaxation
✔ Bodyworkers cannot legally perform many veterinary procedures, including:
• Aligning, adjusting, or manipulating joints
• Providing animal rehabilitation services
• Using needles (such as acupuncture)
• Applying medications or therapeutic products
• Diagnosing medical conditions
• Prescribing treatments
💡 Both approaches can benefit horses, but they serve different purposes.
Chiropractic care focuses on joint mobility and nervous system function, while bodywork focuses primarily on muscle and soft tissue health as adjunctive therapy.
Understanding the difference helps ensure your horse receives the right care for the right problem.
