Let’s talk about history of Hyssop

Hyssop, (Hyssopus officinalis) has a long history of use. This herb is native to southern Europe and central Asia, has been prized for its medicinal, culinary uses, and used in rituals.
In ancient times, hyssop was commonly used as a medicine. A strong tea made from its leaves, and honey, was used for ailments such as nose, throat, and lung afflictions. It was also applied externally to bruises to aid in healing. Hyssop was a popular during the Middle Ages as a stewing herb, adding flavor to their pitiful meals .
In the Bible, it is mentioned for cleansing, particularly in the purification of lepers and used in the cleaning of the lepers’ homes. When you think about the severity of this disease, certainly they would choose the most powerful cleaning agent they had. Hyssop! What else can it clean?
Many think that the Hyssop of Biblical times may have been Marjoram
The leaves contain oil of hyssop, an oil used by perfumers. Do a deeper study on Hyssop and you will wonder why this herb is falling out of favor. This shouldn’t happen.
