We are under both a red flag warning and a high wind warning. There is a LOT of dry tinder right now. This is critical fire weather and there might also be a lot of dust. Pay attention to the conditions. Don’t do dumb…stuff. Don’t even think the word “spark”.

Parking or driving on tall grass is a terrible idea. Keep those cigarette butts where they belong. Check those trailer chains. Don’t drive if you can’t see the road. Secure that trampoline in the backyard. Maybe just stay home altogether. Have a way (or two) to get emergency alerts. And it’s never a bad idea to make sure your important devices are charged and have backups should we have a power outage. Call 911 only for emergencies.

Make good choices. Future you will thank you.

No, yeah, no, we’re fine. Why do you ask? The forecast? Oh it’s nothing. Unless you count temperatures with windchills below zero through Sunday. Or the possibility of snow. Or the fact that I just ran out of my favorite hot cocoa and accidentally bought decaf coffee instead of regular. But other than that, yeah, everything’s toooootally fine….

For real: starting Thursday night it’s going to be cold. Like all-caps COLD. Like extra letters COOOOOLD. Make a plan now for your people, your pets, your pipes, your plants…etc. (if this were a video that would have been a spit take).

Maybe launder your long underwear and wool socks. Make a plan for heating your house that doesn’t involve burning things down with a space heater too close to your blankets or poisoning yourself with an indoor generator. Get some fuel in your vehicles.

And you know how we feel about always having good soup on deck.

Go forth.
Or actually don’t.
Go inside.

That’s where I’ll be: inside. Drinking this useless hot brown water.

It has begun! The Winter Storm Warning is in effect until at least 5pm. Storm track has shifted enough that we are now in the zone predicted for the heaviest snowfall (possibly 7-10 or even 12 inches) with strong winds that could create blizzard-like conditions. Visibility will likely continue to decrease affecting morning and evening commutes. Just stay home, mmmmkay??
