The Rotary Club of Canal Fulton announces a Community Grant program to benefit the residents of Canal Fulton, Lawrence Township and the Northwest Local School District. Initial plans are to provide a total of $5000 in grants annually to non-profits and similar groups operating within the described area. The object is to provide funds to projects that will directly or indirectly help residents.

Applicants representing local non-profits should contact the Rotary Club at canalfultonrotary1926@gmail.com to receive an application for a grant. Grants will be provided for specific projects and not for operating funds.

The Rotary Club of Canal Fulton was founded in 1926. Rotary International is a global service organization. The Canal Fulton Club provides scholarships to graduating Northwest HS students and supports the Community Cupboard among other service activities and projects.

Herbert C. Bedlion, Jr., 76 of Marshallville, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019. Born on November 10, 1942 in Akron to the late Herbert Sr. and Allis (Hess) Bedlum, he was a Marshallville resident most of his life. Herbert retired from Brown-Graves Lumber and was a member of the Teamsters Local 348. He enjoyed fishing, truck driving, horse auctions and riding through Amish country. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest and Delbert and sister, Jean Leidel. Herbert is survived by his sons, Burt (Autumn) Bedlion and Jim Bedlion; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Page and Kay Pfaff; brothers, Robert (Lucy) and Dave (Doris) Bedlion.
Funeral Services will be held SATURDAY, 10:00am, at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93) Canal Fulton. Burial at Clinton Cemetery. Visitation Friday, 6pm to 8pm at the funeral home.

Donna Jubara, 69 of Canal Fulton, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 11:11am. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and daughter. She battled ALS since September 11th of 2017 and finally defeated the disease on April 13th to find the arms of Jesus to greet her and tell her "well done good and faithful servant". She is survived by her son, Dewane Jubara; daughter-in-law, Lori Jubara; grandson, Nick Jubara; granddaughters, Abby and Elle Jubara; mother, Victoria Miske; brother, Mitch Price; sister-in-law, Terry Price; nephew, Mitch Price; niece, Amber Angeline; nephew, Zach; uncle, Joe LaSalle; aunt, Pat LaSalle; cousins, Joe LaSalle, Jamie LaSalle, Linda Smith, Susan Hobrath and sister-in-law, Linda Hentsch.

Lewis D. Gandee, 83 of Canal Fulton, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019 at his home surrounded by family. Born on January 30, 1936 in Wanego, WV to the late J. Walter and Mallie (Lloyd) Gandee, he had been a Canal Fulton resident for over 56 years and retired from the Babcock and Wilcox Co. with over 30 years of service. Lewis was a member of the Masonic National Lodge F&AM #568, the Canal Fulton Breakfast Club and especially loved spending time with his 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister, Iris June Gandee; Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Carpenter) Gandee; daughters, Twila (John) Haas, Tammy (Greg) Colaner, Tina (Mark) Daut and Teressa Gandee; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; siblings, Madeline Matheny, Eugene Gandee and Treva (Jack) White.

Jason E. Gabor, 46 of Cleveland died February 4, 2019 at his home. Jason was born July 3, 1972 in Massillon, Ohio,. He was a graduate of Northwest High School, attended and played football at Capital University, Columbus and graduated from Kent State University. Jason was a member of Local #310, Concrete Workers, Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Eugene "Gene" Gabor and is survived his mother, Susan Boyd; sisters, Nicole (Todd) Carmany and Gina (Troy) Carmany; niece Savannah Gagnon and nephew, Cole Carmany. Betty Jane (Harbaugh) Beaber, 97 of Clinton, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 26, 2018 at her home. Born November 4, 1920 in Barberton to the late Charles and Leah (Morgan) Harbaugh she was a life resident of Clinton, graduated in 1938 from Clinton High School and was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of 53 years Curtis Beaber; son-in-law, Michael Murphy; sister, Leona "Toni" Bailey and brother, Delmar Harbaugh. Betty is survived by her two daughters, Dr. Linda Murphy and Janice (Jim) Breitenstine; grandchildren, Matthew (Courtney) Breitenstine, Leah Breitenstine and Christopher Murphy.

Funeral Services will be held FRIDAY, 11am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 7595 Middle St., Clinton, Pastor Julie Thoms, officiating. Burial at Clinton Cemetery. Joel J. Horak, 70 of Canal Fulton, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 at his home. Joel was a life resident of the area, graduate of Barberton High School and had retired from Bridgestone/ Firestone after 40 years service, where he worked in IT in Tire Development. Joel was widely known throughout the area for being the terrific disc jockey of TopDownDJs. He played music for countless car cruises and car shows over the years. Preceded in death by his father, Joseph Horak; mother, Betty Horak, both of Barberton; step-mother, Theda Romeyn Horak of Akron. Joel is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judi Horak; sons, John Horak of Canton and Chad Horak of North Canton; two grandchildren, Caige and Xander Horak, Joel's 'best buds"; brothers, Gerald (Sharon) Horak of Barberton, Kevin (Kathleen) Horak of Aurora, Brian Romeyn of Mentor-on-Lake and Kevin (Trina) Romeyn of Vancouver, WA.. Car cruisers are more than welcome to "dress casual" for the calling hours and Joel's funeral. The cruisers are also welcome to bring their "rides" to drive in the funeral procession as escorts for Joel to Greenlawn Memorial Park,, Romig Road, Akron. He would be honored. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Education Funds for his "Best Buds" Caige and Xander Horak.

James E. Smith, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 24, 2018. Born in Barberton to the late Elgin Burdette and Gladys Irene (Cain) Smith, he had been a life resident of the Manchester area. Jim was a long time active member of Grace Bible Church where he served in many areas. Jim was employed by numerous automobile dealerships and retired from Meyers Ford in Hartville, OH. Jim served in the military with the United States Marine Corps as a rifle instructor, and served for many years with Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid boater, golfer, bowler, and car fanatic.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Doris (Dunn) Smith; daughter, Debra (Jim) Weisburn; son, Gary (Kristol) Smith; grandchildren, Brian (Elizabeth) Currington, Matthew Smith, Sabrina Carnes and Monica (Antonio) Ramos; great-grandchildren, Mahriana, Christian, Austin, Levi and Isabel; sister, Patricia Robinette, serveral nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held THURSDAY, 11am, at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 Cherry St. E. (Rt. 93), Pastor Cary Duckett, officiating. Burial at Clinton Cemetery.
