Women Affirming Women (WAW)

Women Affirming Women (WAW) Serving Women ~ Renewing Spirit ~ Building Community Building upon a 10 year old Women’s Respite Program founded by female members of St.

Stephen’s Community House, compassionate and passionate volunteers work together to create a facility that is a welcoming environment for women in need or who desire to belong to a network within a familial atmosphere. With the goal of achieving a truly holistic program, a community collaborative model is envisioned, which brings together services and business providers willing to support our vision and embody genuine ethical standards and concerns that are in line with Women Affirming Women‘s mission.

Congratulations to our WAW sister Arganise Kline for her Peer Mentor award. You are an inspiration!

🎉 We were honored to recognize Arganise Kline as our POEM Peer Mentor of the Year at Mental Health America of Ohio’s Holiday Magic event.

Arganise’s journey beautifully reflects the heart of POEM. She first came to our program in March 2023 as an expectant first-time mom seeking support. Just six days after giving birth, she courageously joined her first peer support group, sharing how overwhelmed and exhausted she felt—and later told us, “I really needed yesterday.”

Over time, we watched Arganise grow from receiving support to offering it. Nearly a year later, her consistent presence, empathy, and encouragement led her into a volunteer role, where she has since become a peer mentor, support group facilitator, and now the Peer Chair for the Ohio Perinatal Mental Health Task Force’s Public Awareness Team.

As Arganise shared, “You’ve made me feel safe—seen and heard. I want every mother who comes to POEM to feel that same support.” Her ability to transform personal experience into compassion and leadership continues to make a lasting impact on families across Ohio.

We are deeply grateful for Arganise and proud to celebrate her incredible dedication. Congratulations, Arganise. 🎉

Our heartfelt thanks again go out to Linda Fitzgerald and Suzanna Humbert from First Financial Bank for leading this informative session covering setting and achieving short-term financial goals, understanding a credit report, exploring debt relief options, accessing resources for women managing tight budgets, and more!

National Women Support Women Day is celebrated annually on December 1st. It was created in 2018 by Amy O'Donnell to honor and recognize the contributions of women across various fields, including arts, politics, and business. This day aims to raise awareness about women's issues, such as violence and discrimination, and encourages solidarity among women. It serves as a platform for women to support each other, celebrate female friendship, and empower one another. Show the women in your life some love today!

Violence against women (particularly intimate partner violence and sexual violence) is a major public health problem and a violation of women's human rights. Estimates published by the WHO indicate that globally about 30% of women worldwide have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. Violence can negatively affect women’s physical, mental, sexual, and reproductive health. To achieve lasting change, it is important to enact and enforce legislation and develop and implement policies that promote gender equality, allocate resources to prevention and response, and invest in women’s rights organizations.
