End of shift last night was a balmy 1 F at base.

We warmed up while laughing at our attempts to get our frozen boots off. We discussed what layers worked to keep us warm and talked about how epic that last run was under the snow guns on rocket.

This is one example of why we love what we do, these moments of commradery.

Safety Tips for this weekend:

Keep warm and dry:
Wear a moisture wicking base layer, insulation layer and windproof layer to keep you warm and dry. Bring along hand warmers or toe warmers and extra clothes to change into.

Take breaks:
Warm up if toes and fingers are too cold at base.

Keep skin covered:
If you skin looks white or pale, it's time to go back inside to warm up.

Hypothermia:
If you or a friend are experiencing uncontrollable shivering, disorientation, slurred speech, medical attention is needed.

Most importantly, reach out to a ski patroller if you or a friend need assistance.

See you on the slopes. ⛷️🏂

This week we said goodbye to one of our patrollers, Rick Wilcox. He is retiring from the patrol and moving to sandy beaches. We will miss you, and so will the moguls. Thank you for your many years of service.

Our Story

The Bristol Mt. Ski Patrol (BMSP) is a group of people (volunteers) who above all, love to ski, snowboard, and telemark, and share the joy of the sport with others, while we promote safety and provide credentialed outdoor emergency care, in accordance with National Ski Patrol guidelines. BMSP members come from all walks of life, and spend countless hours in training before becoming active Patrollers.

The primary purpose for the ski area patrol is Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) and timely transportation services as needed by Bristol's patrons. Additionally, the patrol function is to educate the skiing/snowboarding public to assure awareness of their responsibilities on the mountain, with regard to courtesy and safe skiing practices, while still being able to enjoy all aspects of the sport.

Each on-duty patroller carries a radio, so everyone is kept up to date in the event of a problem. Rescue toboggans are stationed in multiple locations around the area, with two hilltop buildings and a base facility that contain additional equipment, including oxygen, defibrillator, evacuation ropes, and other medical supplies that may be required in special situations.

Why do so many become patrollers?
