Children who have gone through intense trauma, like abuse or the loss of a loved one, benefit greatly from having safe spaces to play, create and relax in.

Thanks to a gift from Panda Cares, the charity affiliated with Panda Express, through the Sanford Health Foundation, a new safe space with art supplies, toys and more was opened at the Sanford Traumatic Stress Treatment Center and the Sanford Children's CARE Clinic. This room gives children in the Fargo region a place where they can feel comfortable, helping them heal and recover.

Ashlyn Buchholz tore her ACL and meniscus in the middle of her junior basketball season.

With help from Dr. Anthony Kasch, Ashlyn made it back to the court and the track field her senior year of high school.

"My parents were told multiple times that I wouldn't survive. I was baptized in the hospital. They never thought I was coming home. Deb was part of that care that made sure that I got to come home and then someday have three babies of my own."

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Deb Koens cared for Josie Folden during her first days of life in 1995. Twenty-eight years later, at the end of 2023, she cared for Josie's third child, Luci, in the same NICU.

"To be able to know that I was fortunate to be able to care for both of them, it kind of makes you feel like this has been a long, successful career," said Koens.

The Art is Good for the Soul show featured artwork from a select group of aging artists across long term care and assisted livings in the state of Minnesota. We had several pieces of artwork displayed, showcasing the many talents of our residents!

This collaborative art exhibit celebrates the creativity of older adults and peoples with disabilities. Senator John Hoffman, who is a champion for aging services legislation, was the first to come by and check out the art exhibit.

This display was set up on the East Hall of the Minnesota State Capitol.
