It’s spring on the farm
The dandelions, violets and nettles are here

Little Bees has begun! We had the most beautiful opening day

The Earth is starting to smell alive again

And this also means- ticks are a thing we need to be aware of

—————————

Here’s what we are doing to protect our loved ones and yours:

We’ve spent a ton of time, energy and money this year on prevention/control/repellant
And will invest much more

(Like a lot a lot of time - just raking for nematode prep took us weeks
And a hefty investment of funds too)

⁃ NEMATODES- speaking of them, are beneficial, microscopic, parasitic worms that kill ticks and other harmful insects. They’re very cool because they DON’T harm us, our animals, plants or beneficial insect friends. They took us the most time, and so far have been the most costly part of our protocol. We treated 5 acres.

⁃ Emily will be spraying bi-weekly with a rotating mixture of cedarwood oil, neem oil and garlic oil. Around all play structures and gardens/pathways. All organic. Safe for our little bees and the little bees pollinating our world (when done correctly!) unfortunately, the woods are free from this.. it’s just impossible to do 10 acres.

⁃ Josh and Finn will be keeping the grass short! This is a huge deal and we are so grateful for our ā€˜tractor boys’ šŸ¤£šŸ˜šŸšœ

⁃ Reminding you to check- maybe the most important step, since we cannot completely avoid being on earth with this little monsters, and we refuse to let them keep us inside.

It’s a lot of work!! And honestly, pretty expensive.

Your payments, although $5 might seem small- really add up to help cover the costs of organic oils. We want us all healthy and free šŸ’› and we will NEVER spray poison ā˜ ļø
For us, you & The Earth šŸŒ

Love, The Hive Fam

Tomorrow’s am vibes here will be ā˜ŗļøā˜ŗļøā˜ŗļø

This is a ticketed event. Please remember that all participants need a ticket. We shared an important update after the last Meet The Goats activity that moving forward, we’ll be charging admission for all attendees. Initially we offered the 0-2 age group for free, but we’ve found they require the most hands-on support—for both our team and our animals—and we need to adjust to make sure we’re creating a safe and sustainable experience for everyone.

Thank you for understanding and supporting us as we continue to learn and build this out.

LOOK FORWARD TO:
—all our meats
—greens
—snacks
—refreshments
—honey
—pickled goods and more!

See you at the farm! 🐐 If you’ve done this event and enjoyed yourself please reshare this post. If you’re coming again because you loved it and your kids can’t wait to see Biscuit, Zinnia and Snickerdoodle, we are excited!!

What an EPIC first day! šŸ’›

You filled our hearts- and our parking area šŸ˜šŸ¤

The kids I connected with had so much fun- I hope they all did, truly
And the parents I got to chat with were oh so sweet šŸ’›

I would love to know how to better support/include the mamas with little littles and/or multiples- if that’s you, and you feel open to it- let me know šŸ™šŸ¼

I look forward to establishing some familiarity and connection with regular attendance- and the future is bright with all we can do 🄳

Thank you for showing up
For being brave and checking something new out
And for the great play and presence
It was the sweetest sight to see all the children running around the yard 🄲

See you next week!

There are a lot of people we don’t know yet here- hi! Little Bees is an offering for the local children and parents by The Hive: Farm and Community Space šŸ

And just so you know, this is our HOME šŸ

we are a community living space (like a commune if that lingo doesn’t sound familiar to you🤪) that chooses to open our home and land to likeminded humans for events- monthly and special occasions šŸ’›

To be even more specific; this is Emily Boucher-Pouliot - I’m the matriarch here at the Hive, and I’ve birthed this idea because I desired it and didn’t see anything like it around. I’ll be hosting and organizing with my son Finn. He is 2.5, and an absolute gem.

So please- honor us, our other residents (including humans, animals and plants!) and the land šŸ™šŸ¼

You can do that by:

•starting by reading the guidelines at the too of our page- to familiarize yourself with our asks and what you need to know to keep your littles safe

•driving S L O W - in & out

•carrying in & out all you bring with you, including trash- This includes diapers. We actually don’t want poopy diapers sitting in trash outside in the sun.. or to have a 6th trash bin to have to empty weekly / we aren’t a facility that has daily trash removal

•taking care of what you use, putting things away, helping to clean up

•not using toxic chemicals of any kind

•paying $5/child

•respecting all plants and gardens, don’t pick plants or flowers unless invited by Emily specifically- do not enter any fenced in spaces

•supervising your children- this is not a free-range safe space.. stay alert & aware

•ask before using or taking

•honoring the rhythm of the space- slowing down. This isn’t a rushed, loud, overstimulating environment.

WE APPRECIATE YOU šŸ«¶šŸ¼

We are so grateful to have the space to be able to hold this. It’s perfectly imperfect. We are so grateful for Josh, and the other honeys that put in hard work getting the land ready for our first day. We are so excited to meet new friends. We are so excited to PLAY šŸ’›šŸ’›šŸ’›

What do we mean by ā€œnature-basedā€ and ā€œholistically focusedā€?

Because yes, we have some plastic toys.

We aren’t anti-toys or 100% nature-based.

When we say that, we mean:

our goal and intention is to help kids (and parents) learn to love the outdoors, and teach that there ā€˜is no bad weather’. We are going to play in the rain, the mud, snow, sun, cold- all of it!

We want to encourage families to spend time playing outside - in the elements, with the bugs and the challenges- because it’s worth it.

And no, that doesn’t mean all of our toys are made out of wood or that we’ll be completely doing free-play.

We have sandboxes, a water table. A few play structures. Hula hoops and balls. But we hope children will use their imaginations, and play in the mud and with sticks and rocks too.

And by holistically focused?
All parts equal the whole.

We build community. That’s been The Hive Farm’s goal since 2017.

We understand that we are our best selves when we have a village. Our children have the best future when we are connected, when we parent together. When we nourish ourselves AND them. When we include them and encourage them. When we are present together. And expose them to enjoying being in nature.

We are for the families who are doing things differently. For the ones homesteading and homeschooling- but also for the ones who just simply are keeping their families intact, not seeking a drop off - but becoming a part of a container together. We are for families who value present, engaged caregiving (not passive supervision or using the time to disconnect and be on their phones), respect autonomy and boundaries, feel at home in nature-based, low-structure environments and with homeschooling/unschooling/homesteading/alternative healthcare/slow living/respectful, heart-led parenting approaches.

We’re not afraid to ā€œscare the wrong people awayā€ 🤪 We are more scared of not being true to ourselves and our values/mission.

Little Bees is intentionally *not an all-inclusive space*.

We have clear values, clear boundaries, and a strong sense of who this is for and what it’s about. That clarity is what protects the magic of the group. And it will be felt who it is and isn’t for.

We are excited to meet our people šŸ’›šŸ’›šŸ’›
SEE YOU SOON!
