‼️‼️URGENT SECURITY ALERT TO ALL OPTOMETRY OFFICES‼️‼️
Please be on high alert that multiple optometry offices across the Los Angeles area, including mainly the San Fernando Valley, have reported a string of grab-and-run thefts in the past few days. The suspects are using the same method at each location and appear to be increasing in frequency and aggression.
Modus Operandi (MO):
• A suspect enters the office, provides a fake address and date of birth (commonly 06/08/1988) to make an appointment.
• He asks to browse frames before his appointment. He is very friendly and talkative and won’t seem suspicious
• Some offices have been hit more than once in the last 6 months including us
Suspect Description #1:
• Hispanic male, approximately in his 30s
• Large build, tattoos on both arms (often covered)
• Typically wears a black face mask and hat
• Known to use an address on Sherman Way
Suspect Description #2:
• Older male who grabs merchandise and runs without speaking
• Appears to be the getaway driver as well
Getaway Vehicles:
• A black Toyota Prius with no license plates
• A gold/tan mini SUV or hatchback, possibly a Honda CR-V or Chevy Traverse
IMPORTANT: These individuals are hitting multiple offices in a short span of time. Sometimes multiple within the same day. One recent attempt was prevented because the staff were on alert of his odd request of seeing frames before his appointment. Please remain vigilant and DO NOT keep your door open. In December the older gentleman ran into my office grabbed a bunch of frames and ran out.
Take immediate precautions:
• Notify your entire staff
• Alert building security if available
• Do not hesitate to call local authorities if you feel something is off
• Share this message widely with neighboring practices and industry reps
Let’s protect our practices and each other. Spread this alert to as many offices as possible.
