We're celebrating a great start to 2026 by welcoming the very first babies born across CommonSpirit's Mountain Region hospitals in Colorado, Kansas, and Utah!

The region's first baby of the year arrived on New Year's Day at 1:02 a.m. at St. Francis Hospital, bringing joy to the Garcia family of Colorado Springs.

New Year's babies were also welcomed at St. Anthony North Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital - Mountain Point, and St. Catherine Hospital - Garden City.

There is no greater privilege than supporting families to welcome their newest members! Congratulations to each family, and thanks to our dedicated caregivers for their unwavering commitment to exceptional care during childbirth.

⭐ Welcome Dr. James Genuario to the OrthoColorado surgical team with the hip preservation program!

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Genuario from the CommonSpirit Sports Center to OrthoColorado as part of our hip preservation program.

Dr. Genuario is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist who brings extensive expertise in hip preservation surgery, including care for femoroacetabular impingement, athletic hip injuries, minimally invasive arthroscopy, and advanced joint preservation techniques.

A Colorado native with decades of experience, Dr. Genuario has cared for recreational and professional athletes alike and is known for his thoughtful, patient-centered approach. His clinical philosophy emphasizes personalized treatment plans grounded in innovation, evidence-based care, and compassionate support.

We are excited to strengthen our hip preservation program with Dr. Genuario’s experience and expertise.

Assembling bikes was just the beginning. The real reward came when we watched kids climb on, find their balance, and ride.

In partnership with Wish For Wheels, a Denver-based nonprofit that provides brand-new bikes and helmets to second graders in low-income schools, our team helped assemble them and celebrate as the second graders experienced their first rides on the bikes.

It was a day that perfectly reflected CommonSpirit Health’s dedication to wellness, movement, and whole-person care.

In 2016, Summit County tragically held the highest per capita su***de rate in the U.S., with mental health crises often defaulting to the emergency department. Thanks to the Summit County Sheriff's Office System-Wide Mental Assessment Response Team (SMART), they redefined behavioral health crisis response.

We’re proud to award the Lloyd H. Dean Institute for Humankindness and Health Justice Award and $10,000 to the Summit County Sheriff's Office SMART program, which is dedicated to stabilizing individuals by de-escalating situations and connecting them to robust long-term care.

With this new community-built model in place and collaborating with community partners like St. Anthony Summit Hospital and Building Hope, 87% of SMART clients were diverted from the emergency room in 2024. This work profoundly demonstrates how kindness combined with systemic change creates vital health equity.f
