Rounding out Stroke Awareness Month with another patient spotlight - meet Tom! 👏

Tom experienced a hemorrhagic stroke in December 2025 that left him with significant left-sided weakness. When he returned home from inpatient rehab, he was unable to walk without substantial assistance, relied heavily on his wife for transfers & daily activities, and had no active movement in his left arm.

After 4 months of hard work in PT with Dawsyn & OT with Tori, Tom is now walking independently with a cane, able to walk ~75 feet without a device, completing transfers with much greater independence, navigating stairs with assistance, and regaining movement in his left arm & hand for daily tasks💪

Tom’s motivation, consistency, & determination have been incredible. Watch to the end to hear Tom share his goals & some solid advice for others going through neurological recovery 🧠✨

One of our patients, Gary, recently threw out the first pitch at a Pittsburgh Pirates game & was recognized for his incredible stroke recovery journey! ⚾️

After experiencing a stroke in February 2025 that resulted in left-sided arm weakness, Gary committed himself fully to rehabilitation. Following nearly a year of OT with Dani through NeuroAxis, along with receiving a Vivistim Paired VNS System implant through Allegheny Health Network, Gary has made truly inspiring progress in his recovery.

We are so proud of all the hard work, determination, & resilience Gary has shown throughout his journey. Way to represent, Gary! 💪👏

Meet our next patient spotlight, Kelly ✨

Kelly has been on a long journey since experiencing a stroke in January 2025, but through determination, hard work, and an incredible support system, she has made tremendous functional gains.

When Kelly first started therapy, she required significant assistance for mobility and had little to no movement on her right side. Through her dedication and consistency, she is now walking with supervision using a cane, navigating stairs in her home again, and making meaningful progress with functional use of her right arm during daily activities.

Beyond the physical progress, Kelly brings positivity, motivation, and plenty of dance breaks to every session💃

We are so incredibly proud of you and honored to work with you, Kelly. Your perseverance and attitude continue to inspire us all! 🧠💙

24 years with Parkinson’s and still putting in the work to make meaningful progress. To close out Parkinsons Awareness Month, we’re highlighting Dennis!✨

His therapists report improvements in voice clarity, ADL independence, & functional mobility. At the same time, his ongoing participation in therapy plays a key role in helping slow functional decline and maintain independence over time.

Like many living with Parkinson’s, his performance can vary day to day. Progress isn’t always linear - but it is always worth celebrating🎉
