👓 Did You Know?
The word optometry comes from two Greek roots:
“optos” (ὀπτός), meaning seen or visible
“metron” (μέτρον), meaning measure
Put together, optometry literally means “to measure what is seen.”
That idea dates back centuries, but today it represents much more than just measuring eyesight. Modern optometry evaluates how your eyes focus, move, work together, and respond to light—often detecting changes before symptoms appear.
It’s not just about clearer vision. It’s about precise measurement, early detection, and lifelong eye health.
