How does a kidney get placed in your body for transplant?

During kidney transplant surgery, the donor kidney is placed in the lower abdomen. Blood vessels of the new kidney are attached to blood vessels in the lower part of the abdomen, just above one of the legs. The new kidney's duct through which urine passes to the bladder, called the ureter, is joined to the bladder. That’s right, the new kidney is in the front not the back!
