🌿 Healthy boundaries are a form of self-care.

When we set boundaries, we’re not pushing people away — we’re creating space for respect, balance, and well-being. Boundaries protect our energy, reduce stress, and remind us (and others) that our needs matter too.

Here’s why boundaries are so important for mental health:
✨ They prevent burnout and overcommitment
✨ They encourage healthier, more respectful relationships
✨ They support emotional safety and self-worth
✨ They allow us to live in alignment with our values

💡 Remember: saying “no” to what drains you often means saying “yes” to what restores you.

What’s one boundary you’d like to strengthen in your life? 🌸

😴✨ A good night’s sleep is one of the most powerful forms of self-care.

But did you know that your daily habits can make it easier (or harder) to fall and stay asleep? Practicing sleep hygiene means creating routines and an environment that set your body and mind up for restful, restorative sleep.

💡 Remember: Better sleep = better mood, more energy, and improved mental health.

What’s one habit you’d like to try this week to improve your sleep? 🌿

✨ Your body deserves care, too. ✨

When we think of self-care, we often imagine bubble baths or meditation — but physical self-care is about listening to your body’s needs and nurturing it in ways that support your overall well-being.

🏃 Physical – moving your body, resting well, nourishing yourself
💛 Emotional – practicing gratitude, journaling, setting healthy boundaries
🤝 Social – connecting with loved ones, saying “no” when needed, finding community
🌸 Spiritual – practicing mindfulness, spending time in nature, reflecting on what gives life meaning

💡 Self-care looks different for everyone — the key is finding what restores you.

Which area do you want to focus on this week? 🌿

💡 Remember: Small, consistent steps make a big difference. Taking care of your body also helps your mind and heart heal and thrive.

Still waiting on Apple to release the real therapy emoji pack…

☕ Coffee, because breakthroughs require caffeine.
🐶 Labradoodle, aka the unpaid emotional support staff.
🛋️ Cozy chair—where the real work (and occasional nap fantasies) happen.
💨 Aromatherapy, because lavender > awkward silences.
🌸 Hydrangeas, because nothing says “I process my feelings” like seasonal florals.
📖 DSM-5, because we can’t diagnose with vibes alone.
🧣 Blanket, the universal sign for “life is hard but I’m soft.”

🍂

When I’m not in session, my days look a little like this…
☕ Coffee run (because caffeine is clinical self-care)
🌱 Watering plants and reminding myself growth takes time
📝 Teaching psychoeducation on psychological evaluations + assessments
🐶 Bringing Teddy to the office for extra smiles
💐Supporting local businesses
🧘 Ending the day with Pilates to reset my mind and body

Therapy is my work, but living well is my practice. 💛

Five years ago, Erin hired the very first team member at Erin Williams Counseling and let’s be honest, she hit the jackpot.

Ashlea has been here since day one, bringing laughter that doesn’t quit, a sense of humor that keeps us all sane, and a willingness to roll up her sleeves and do whatever it takes. She and Erin first teamed up back in their residential treatment days, and the work (and laughs) they’ve shared since then have been nothing short of incredible.

She’s grown into an amazing clinician, an even better teammate, and truly the heart of this practice. We couldn’t be luckier to have her. Here’s to Ashlea—five years strong and not slowing down anytime soon. 🖤

Please join us in congratulating Ashlea!

📖 Book Recommendation from Our Therapist, Zoe: The Body Keeps the Score

One of the most common questions we hear in therapy is:
“Why does my body still react as if the trauma is happening, even when I know I’m safe?”

Our therapist, Zoe, often recommends The Body Keeps the Score by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk because it helps answer this question in a way that’s both compassionate and science-based.

🌿 Key insights from the book:

Trauma isn’t just a memory stored in the mind—it lives in the body, shaping how we feel, react, and connect with others.

The brain actually changes after trauma, which explains why willpower alone isn’t enough to “get over it.”

Healing often requires more than talk therapy—approaches like yoga, EMDR, breathwork, and creative expression can help the nervous system reset.

Safe, supportive relationships are central to recovery—healing doesn’t happen in isolation.

Most importantly: healing is possible, even after deep wounds.

Zoe shares:

“This book is powerful because it combines real stories with neuroscience and practical strategies. It gives hope that our bodies and brains can heal, no matter how long we’ve carried the pain.”

If you’ve ever wondered why your body holds on to stress or why certain triggers feel overwhelming, this book is an incredible resource. Whether you’re on your own healing journey, supporting a loved one, or simply curious about the impact of trauma, The Body Keeps the Score is well worth reading.

💙 Healing takes time, but resources like this remind us—it’s absolutely possible.
