Every three weeks in the U.S., a child dies from a television tipping over, but many parents and caregivers are not aware of the dangers of a falling TV. TV tip-overs are more likely to involve a young child under the age of 5 and can result in head injuries, broken bones, or death.

In the U.S., our product safety recall system is only activated if someone reports an issue. A recall might mean offering a replacement product, fixing it, or asking consumers to not use the product at all. If you have a problem with a product, even if there’s no injury, report it at SaferProducts.gov.

When temperatures drop, it is natural to want to bundle kids up before heading out. However, bulky winter coats are not safe to wear in car seats.

In a crash, thick coats can compress, creating extra space between your child and the harness. Even if the straps felt tight at first, this can leave the harness too loose and increase the risk of injury.

✅ Safer ways to keep kids warm
• Buckle your child in without a bulky coat
• Check that the harness straps are snug
• Place the coat or a blanket over the buckled straps
• Warm up the vehicle before driving when possible

Scalds, or liquid burns, are by far the most common burn we treat, especially in children under the age of 5.

Hot water/steam, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and instant noodles are the biggest culprits so make sure you utilize a circle of safety or barrier around your oven, stove and microwave. Visit BeBurnAware.org for more.

🚨 This week is National Burn Awareness Week! 🚨

Did you know fire- and burn-related injuries are among the top 10 causes of unintentional injury in children ages 0–5, with the youngest kids at the highest risk?

Here are some important safety tips for parents and caregivers:

🔥 Kitchen & Cooking Safety
• Keep children at least 3 feet away from stoves, ovens, and hot food.
• Turn pot handles inward so they can’t be pulled off the stove.
• Never leave cooking unattended.

💧 Hot Liquids & Scald Prevention
• Keep hot drinks and soups in the center of tables or counters, away from little hands.
• Set your water heater temperature to 125–120°F or lower and always check bathwater with your wrist or elbow before placing your child in the tub.

🔥 Fire Sources
• Use flashlights instead of candles when possible — and never leave candles unattended.
• Create a “kid-free zone” around fireplaces, heaters, and grills.

🔌 General Home Safety
• Test smoke alarms monthly.
• Keep cords, chemicals, and devices out of reach of children.

📚 Teach & Prepare
• Teach children what to do if clothing catches fire: Stop, Drop & Roll.
• Have and practice a family fire escape plan.

Let’s keep our little ones safe by being proactive and aware! ❤️🔥
