Norma J Diekmann

Norma J. Diekmann, 91, of Navarre, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025. She was born on April 1, 1934, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Ralph and Adeline (Kratzer) Lenhart, and remained a lifelong resident of the community. She was a 1952 graduate of Canton McKinley High School.

Norma dedicated her career to helping others through her work as a dietitian at Aultman Hospital. She also devoted many hours assisting her husband with their family business, Diekmann Cabinet Shop. She was a longtime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy M. Diekmann, three brothers, Ralph, Don and Raymond Lenhart; two sisters, Alice Henderhan and Doris Arrington.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Tina and David Bair of Hudson, Ohio; her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Melissa Diekmann of Canton, Ohio; five grandchildren, Lauren Bair and Andrew (Kat) Bair, Allyson, Matthew, and Krista Diekmann and two great-grandchildren Nixon and Violet Bair.

Family and friends may call on Monday, November 24, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 6025 Shepler Church Ave SW, Navarre, OH 44662. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m., officiated by Reverend Carl Orphanides. Following the service, Norma will be laid to rest at Zoar Cemetery beside her beloved husband, Roy.

Memorial contributions may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church.

Edward Milton Meyer, the rock that held our family together, quietly slipped away to go home with his wife, Josephine, on the morning of November 14, 2025. He had waited 14 years to join the love of his life who he had lovingly cared for during her long illness with a loving heart and caring hands.

Edward was born in East Palestine, Ohio on Christmas Eve, 1934 to the late Edward J. and Mildred E. (Gard) Meyer. Dad grew up in East Sparta, Ohio and attended East Sparta High School. He met his future wife through his friend, Fred Neisel. Edward and Josephine (Jo Ann Angelo) were married on June 25, 1955 and spent 56 wonderful years together. Dad retired from Ohio Transformer/Magnatek in 2004, where he was a transformer assembler. His family heard many stories about his hunting adventures with his brother, Don, friends, sons-in-law, grandsons, and of course, his wife, throughout his life. Dad was always on the go. He enjoyed bowling, archery, fishing, boating, gardening, camping, watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in sports and school events, and fixing things. He loved challenges.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; his parents, Edward and Mildred Meyer; his sisters, Dorothy Ready, Virginia Foraker, Naomi Law, Ruth Angelo and Mildred Smith; as well as his brothers, Donald and Robert Meyer.

Dad is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela (David) Stahleker and Julie (Timothy) Ness of Canton; his grandchildren, Nick and Dana Stahleker of Louisville, Ohio; Edward and Chrissy Stahleker of Delaware, Ohio; Sabina (Chris Turner) Walter of Kent, Ohio; Timothy (Stephanie Hilliard) Ness of Canton, Ohio; Joseph (Lauren Straniak) Ness of Cortland, Ohio; Austin (April Slates) Ness of Canton, Ohio; and Jaret (Megan Brown) Ness of Massillon, Ohio. Edward is also survived by great-grandchildren, Kolton Sparks, Timothy Ness, Konrad Stahleker, Aubrey Straniak, Jackson Straniak, Crosby Stahleker, Sophia Stahleker and C**t Ness; and two sisters, Shirley Kuhns of East Sparta, Ohio, and Jean Stokes of Lakewood, Ohio.

The family wishes to thank Aultman Hospice, especially caregivers, Nikki, Linda and Gayle; and Seniors Helping Seniors caregivers, Karen and Lori.

Family and friends may visit at St. Michael's Catholic Church (3431 St. Michael Blvd. NW, Canton, Ohio 44718) on Thursday, November 20, 2025 from 10am until his Mass begins at 11am. He will then be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery (3469 Lincoln Way E, Massillon, OH 44646) alongside his beloved wife.

Roy E. Klick

Roy E. Klick, age 86, of Massillon, passed away peacefully at his home, Windy Way Farm, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 12, 1939, in Massillon, Ohio, to the late Frank and Katherine H. (Brown) Klick, and remained a resident of the community throughout his life. Roy was a 1957 graduate of Massillon Washington High School and went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps.

After his service, Roy returned home to follow his lifelong passion for farming. At Windy Way Farm, he worked alongside his father and later his son, cultivating both the land and lasting family traditions. His life was truly fulfilled when he married the love of his life, Mary Jo, on September 21, 1958. Together they built a life rooted in faith, hard work, and devotion to family.

Roy was an active member of the Canton Baptist Temple, the Perry Grange, and the Stark County Farm Bureau. Through these organizations, he formed many cherished friendships and was known for his gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Klick; children, Amy (Lonni) Mackey, Kenneth R. (Mary Ellen) Klick, and James E. (Mary Beth) Klick; grandchildren, Tyler (Kayla), Taylor (Taylor), Logan (Kelsey), Ben (Kourtney), and Camille (Alex); seven great-grandchildren; and brothers, Robert (Gina) Klick and Frank Klick.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Canton Baptist Temple (Henniger Center), 515 Whipple Ave. NW, Canton, OH 44708. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Following his funeral at 11:00 a.m., Roy will be laid to rest at Richville Cemetery, with military honors in recognition of his dedicated service to our nation.

Rebecca A. Baker, age 77, of Canton, passed away peacefully at her home on November 9, 2025. Born on March 28, 1948, in Massillon, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Jane Bender. Rebecca was a graduate of Perry High School.

Following high school, she worked as a secretary for Timken before devoting herself to raising her family. Together with her husband, Larry, she raised three sons who were her greatest joy. Later, Rebecca returned to the workforce and spent more than 15 years with State Farm at several area locations, where she was known for her dedication and kindness.

Rebecca had a passion for writing, reading, and gardening. She found joy in simple moments, and cherished time spent with her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Larry Baker; her sons, Michael (Ann Marie) Baker, Matthew Baker, and Mark (Penny) Baker; grandchildren, Lauren, Lexy, Nathan, and Avery; sister, Sandy (Merlyn) Bender; and many extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Bender Jr.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Perry Christian Church, 139 Perry Dr NW, Canton, OH 44708.

Erna L. Atkins nee Bicker, age 95, of Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025. She was born on August 21, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Erna retired from Meals on Wheels in 1996 after 15 years of dedicated service. A faithful member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, she enjoyed spending time with the O-Hi-Lo Camping Club and AARP. She enjoyed reading and traveling in United States and abroad.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband David V. Atkins; her son Kenneth Atkins, and one brother.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Jane Atkins of North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Buchholz of Citrus Heights, California, and Joyce and Steve Walker of Massillon, Ohio; along with six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 3828 Cleveland Ave SW, Canton, OH 44707. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service, on Saturday from 12:00–1:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.

Eugene "Butch" R. Jones

Eugene R. “Butch” Jones, age 71, of Louisville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Aultman Compassionate Care Center. Born on July 27, 1954, in Victorville, California, he was the son of the late Eugene W. and Margaret E. (Whitemeyer) Jones.

Butch grew up in the Louisville area and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, where he was a standout football player. His athletic talent led him to Bowling Green State University, where he lettered in football in 1976, and ultimately to being drafted by the NFL. Unfortunately, an injury ended his professional football aspirations before he had the chance to play in a game.

Following that setback, Butch found a new path as a skilled bricklayer, a trade he took great pride in until his retirement. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Bricklayers Local 6 in Canton, regularly attending meetings and supporting his fellow tradesmen.

A longtime member of the Louisville YMCA for more than 20 years, Butch lived an active life. He enjoyed swimming, outdoors, and gardening, and had a deep love and compassion for his animals.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger Jones.

Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted life partner and best friend of 35 years, Sharon Huston, along with her children and grandchildren, whom he loved and cared for as his own — Matthew (Jennifer) Kisela, Tracy Stephens, Magen (Brian) DePalmo, and Tiffany Rinhart. He is also survived by four nieces, one nephew, several cousins, and his dear friend Bob Paitt, whom he considered part of his extended family.

In accordance with Butch’s wishes, friends and family may call on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home. There will be no formal funeral service, and a private cremation will take place.

E. Joann Longoria, age 76, of Holloway, Ohio, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio. She was born on February 8, 1949, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to the late Donald E. and Verna L. (Luyster) Hanes.

Joann managed Bellstores for many years in the Stark county area, after she dedicated her career to caring for others as an STNA in the healthcare field. She was known for her compassionate heart and genuine desire to help those in need. Her kindness and selflessness touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-dad, Donald Stevens,her brothers, Donald “Butch” Hanes and David Hanes; granddaughters, Kaylee E. Longoria and Lindsey M. Longoria.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Revecca Crallie; sons, Marty (Stevie) Longoria and Valdemar (Wendy) Longoria; grandchildren, Breanna, Trey Dominick, Jadyn, Jose, Stephanie, Briana, Derrick, Justin and Haley and many great-grandchildren.

Gary E. Lane, 81, of Canton Township, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. He was born in Zanesville, Ohio, on August 28, 1944, to the late John E. Lane and Mary Kathleen (Buker) Lane.

A 1963 graduate of Canton South High School, he continued his education at The Ohio State University, where he majored in surveying. His career began with the State of Ohio, where he served as a surveyor for seven years. He then spent two decades with Shisler & Associates before joining Stark County Engineers, where he proudly worked for another 20 years until his retirement. Known for his easygoing nature and willingness to lend a hand, he was deeply loved by those who knew him.

Gary was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed basketball, golfing, and playing fumble ball—a passion that earned him a place in the Amateur Sports Hall of Fame for the sport. He also loved traveling, visiting Mountaineer and Wheeling Island casinos, and watching the races.

Gary is proceeded in death by his parents; sister Sharon Ann Lane

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Jeanne M. (Miller) Lane, whom he married on August 28, 2003. Their love and devotion to one another spanned more than 35 years. He is also survived by his children, Lori Nicholson and John A. Lane and his partner, Dave Ryan; stepchildren, Kim (Eileen) Kemper, Tim Kemper, Carrie (Alan) O’Conner, and Carmen (John) Conley; along with 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and his sister Judy Tritt.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Gary’s funeral service will be held the following day, Friday, October 31, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., with Ed Barnes officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Gary will be laid to rest at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton, Ohio.

Charles “Chuck” D. Shaffer, age 93, of Canton, passed away peacefully in Gainesville, Florida, on Friday, October 17, 2025. He was born in Canton, Ohio, on May 23, 1932, to the late Lawrence and Katherine (Kraft) Shaffer.

Chuck devoted 39 years of dedicated service to the Pepsi Corporation, where he served as Warehouse Manager until his retirement. He also served his community as a Stark County Sheriffs Reserve, for 20 years. Before beginning his long career, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, earning recognition for his honorable service.

He was a member of the East Canton Church of God, the North Canton American Legion Post #0419, AARP, and the Akron VFW Post #3383 and American Legion Post #44 Canton.

In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lula Mae (Jones) Shaffer; daughters Charlotte Shaffer and her partner John Grove and daughter Cheryl Bennet; sons Carl Shaffer and Clarence (Joyce) Shaffer; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 2:45 p.m. at Sunset Hills Burial Park, with Pastor Greg Smith officiating. Army military honors will follow in recognition of Chuck’s service to our nation.

Ernest "Ernie" F. Schwab

Ernest (Ernie) F. Schwab, age 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Hanover Health Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 6, 1938, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Ernest and Priscilla (Sagh) Schwab.

A proud graduate of Canton McKinley High School, Ernie enlisted in the United States Army following graduation. He completed Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and was later stationed in Germany, where he served honorably for four and a half years.

After his military service, Ernie began a long and dedicated career with the Timken Company, working at the Gambrinus Roller Plant. He retired after 35 years of service.

Ernie was a beloved figure in the Stark County bowling community. Second, only to his love for family and fishing, bowling was his lifelong passion. He spent more than 45 years coaching youth bowlers and was honored with induction into the Greater Canton Bowling Hall of Fame for his contributions both on and off the lanes.

Beyond bowling, Ernie cherished time spent fishing—especially his annual trips to Canada—and playing Euchre with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Louis Schwab; his brother-in-law, Gary Roland; and his sons-in-law, Mark Nicholas and Dale Neal.

Ernie is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Katie L. (Gruber) Schwab, whom he married on April 15, 1961; Sister Micky (Haas) Roland; daughters Gayle Neal (Tim Austin), Julie Nicholas (Al Tackett), and Teresa (Mark) Chase; grandchildren Terry Genet, Nick (Sarah) Genet, Mike (Jordan) Nicholas, Matt (Emily) Nicholas, Devlen Neal, and Abby Chase; and great-grandchildren Izabelle Genet, Jacob Haidet, Maryssa Genet, Bryson Genet, Savannah Genet, and Gabriel Nicholas.

He is also survived by his Canadian family: son Patrick (Brenda) Beaudry; grandchildren Samantha (Kevin) Kruithof, Kayla (Manuel) Tousignant, Kimberly (Thomas) Cox; and great-grandchildren Obadiah, Yeorian, Mathieu, Griffin, Malachi, Dawson, and Winston.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with interment at Mapleton Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place immediately after the interment at the Foltz Community Center, located at 224 N Wood St, East Canton, OH 44730.

Dan C. Franklin, age 67, of Canton Township, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 2, 1958, in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Sherman Lee and Sylvia Marie (Locke) Franklin.

Dan worked as a truck driver for PJ Fabrications and was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. Above all, he valued time spent with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lisa Franklin; son Jonathan Franklin Sr.; brothers, Jon Franklin, Sherman Franklin Jr., and sister, Rose Kisner.

Cherishing his memory are his daughters, Elyse (Matthew) Jergens and Rebecca Taggart; son, David Franklin; brother, Mark (Mary) Franklin; along with his grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
