Russell Eugene “Gene” Shearer

Russell Eugene “Gene” Shearer, 81, of East Canton, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Aultman Hospital. He was born November 14, 1944, in East Canton, Ohio, to the late Russell and Marie (Stinchcomb) Shearer.

Gene was raised on the Shearer Dairy Farm, where he developed a strong work ethic that remained with him throughout his life. A 1963 graduate of East Canton High School, he began his career with Sugardale Foods before being drafted into the United States Army. Gene proudly served his country with the First Cavalry Division (Airmobile) during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable service, he returned to Sugardale Foods, where he dedicated over 41 years before retiring.

In retirement, Gene found great joy in helping others, often working out of his home garage repairing vehicles for family, friends, and neighbors. He had a natural ability to diagnose problems and took great pride in getting people safely back on the road.

Gene was a devoted member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Waynesburg, where he married the love of his life, Carolyn Ickes. He was also a member of the Buckeye Corvette Club and had a lifelong passion for Chevrolet vehicles, especially Corvettes. He enjoyed attending car shows and sharing his enthusiasm with fellow enthusiasts.

Above all, Gene cherished time with his family. He loved traveling across the country, especially to NASCAR races and beach destinations. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and boating with family and friends. Lake Mohawk held a special place in his heart, where he spent many cherished days water skiing with his family.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sisters-in-law, Marilyn Shearer and Chris Shearer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carolyn (Ickes) Shearer, whom he married on May 11, 1968; his daughter, Darla (Ty Gowins) Salvino; his son, Dave (Kim) Shearer; his grandson, Kyle Goodwill; his granddaughters, Tara Goodwill and Kylie Shearer; his brothers, Richard Shearer and Don Shearer; three nephews, Rod (Christine) Shearer, Todd (Amy) Shearer, Donny (Morgan) Shearer Jr.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home, 218 E. Nassau St., East Canton, and again on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Linda S***z officiating. Gene will be laid to rest at Mapleton Cemetery.

Ruth A. Townsend, age 77, passed away at home on April 1, 2026. She was born on March 30, 1949 to the late James and Laverne Townsend.

Ruth held many odd jobs throughout the years, mostly in retail. She enjoyed spending money, shopping and cross-stitch. Diamond art was her most recent favorite pass-time. She loved scary movies, murder mystery shows and true-crime stories.

She had many husbands throughout the years. She was a Dalrymple, Rush, Tarian, Davlin, and she decided to keep her maiden name with the last one.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Mistty Baxter and Noell (Tim) Cline; grandchildren, Samantha (Mike) Thompson, Brittani Casto and Carter Cline; great-grandchildren, Katherine and Konnor; siblings, Jim (Denise) and Cheryl Townsend; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and there are no formal services planned at this time.

Keith B. Brown

Keith B. Brown, age 68, of the Canton area, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Aultman Compassionate Care Center, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 5, 1957, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Robert E. Brown, Sr. and Florence (Miculan) Brown.

He was 1975 graduate of Canton South High School. Beginning in 1984, Keith spent several years in Florida, where he developed his skills installing hurricane panels and water softeners. Upon returning to Ohio, he dedicated the majority of his career to working with Hague Water Conditioning, serving families throughout the community.

Keith had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and an adventurous spirit. He and his wife, Cindy, shared a passion for riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, often traveling hundreds of miles together to attend motorcycle events and rally’s. He also enjoyed hiking, nature tours, and golfing. Some of his most cherished memories were made along the Ohio River, where he spent time boating and water skiing with his family.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Rob Brown and Todd Brown; and his sisters, Treva Boydelatour and Kim Kinsinger.

Keith is survived by his loving wife, Cindy (England) Brown, whom he married on January 5, 1984, after five years together, sharing a devoted and loving partnership of 47 years. He is also survived by his brother, Vint Brown; his brother-in-laws Bob (Diane) England and Jim Boydelatour; his sister-in-law, Cathy England; and a special niece, Brittany Donhoff, whom he considered as a daughter, along with her children. He will be fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, along with great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home, 218 East Nassau Street, East Canton, Ohio 44730. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Edwards officiating. Keith will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Louisville, Ohio.

He truly will be remembered for his deep love of family, his adventurous spirit, and the countless memories he shared with those closest to him. He truly embraced the Harley-Davidson motto, “Live to Ride, Ride to Live,” living each day with passion and freedom.

Geraldine "Nina" Domaratz

Geraldine C. Domaratz, age 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 6, 2026. She was born on February 9, 1938 in Culmerville, PA.

She spent four years at Mount Saint Macrina Academy in Uniontown, PA. She held those years close to her heart. She loved school and the experience she had while attending there was very special to her. She was a previous member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church and a current member of St. Joseph Parish in Cuyahoga Falls.

Geraldine, lovingly referred to as Nina, leaves behind a legacy of pure love and stability. Nina was lucky to find love young and was married to Henry "Pop" Domaratz on June 15, 1957 in Tarentum, PA. Pop and Nina spent 65 years together before his passing in April of 2023. Nina played a significant role in the lives of her children and grandchildren, she was truly the matriarch of her family.

She will always be remembered by her four children, Teresa Copen, Kathy, Frank and Anthony (Renee) Domaratz; grandchildren, Zach (Stacey), Tyler (Shelby) and Natasha Copen and Brandon and Madeline Domaratz; and her beloved four great-grandchildren who brought light to her life, Koen, Remy, Myla and Sophia.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Paul Suchanyc, Michael Harding, Cynthia Stickell and David Harding; as well as several friends who she missed dearly.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Parish on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. She will then be laid to rest with her husband at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons Don (Sharon) and Kevin (Melissa) Ackerman and Roger (Shayla) Kimble as well as her grandchildren Donald (Erin) Ackerman, Jamie (Cory) Cavanaugh, Dr. Andrew (Dr. Jordan), Matthew (Makayla) and Nathan Ackerman, Tyler, Dani and Bryant Kimble and seven great-grandchildren. Joyce A. Walpole, age 85, of East Canton, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026 at St. Joseph's Care Center. She was born in Canton on October 8, 1940 to the late Clarence and Katherine (Schuster) Moran. Joyce graduated in 1959 from East Canton High School. She was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2374 in Louisville.

Joyce found love and was married to Thomas E. Walpole in 1961. Together they built a beautiful family whom Joyce cherished more than anything. Joyce and Tom spent over 60 wonderful years together before his passing in 2023. Her passion was her family. There was not a day that went by that she didn’t mention one of them, especially the great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader, cook and gardener. She loved reading and relaxing on her front porch swing watching the water and wildlife move around, while her flowers waved in the summer breeze around her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; and daughter-in-law, Kelly Walpole.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Brett (Christine), Michael (Melanie) and Thomas (Jessica) Walpole; grandchildren, Kaylee (Dan) DiPietro Jr., Kyle (Danni) Walpole and Alyssa (Noah) Burke; great-grandchildren, Jase, Easton, Noah, Charlotte, Mila and Benson; and her sister, Mary (Charles) Perrott.

Wendy L. Fernandez, age 77 of Perry Township, passed away on Sunday. March 29, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Canton, Ohio on March 19, 1949 to the late Roy M. and Dorothy L. (Nesbitt) Linsenbigler. She remained a lifelong resident of the community.

Wendy was a 1967 graduate of Canton South High School. She was employed at Mercy Medical Center for 37 years eventually retiring as a Unit Assistant in the Cardiac Cath Lab. Some of her many interests included gardening and traveling. She especially loved travelling in the western United States and visiting the National Parks. However, her heart was always with her greatest love, her family.

Those left to cherish her memory included her husband of 21 years Jeffrey Fernandez whom she married on September 25th, 2004; sons, Darren Thorley and Marc (Robin) Thorley; granddaughters Alivia and Adyson Thorley; her brothers Ronald and David Linsenbigler.

In accordance with Wendy’s wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice in Wendy’s memory.

Michael A. “Mike” Krajcovic, 84, of East Canton, Ohio, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 29, 2026. He was born on December 27, 1941, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to the late Pete and Anna (Sutak) Krajcovic.

Mike was a 1959 graduate of Steubenville Central Catholic High School. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and honorably served his country. Upon returning home, he began working at a local gas station, where he met the love of his life, Leslie Dickson.

He later worked for 10 years at TRW Steel Mill in Minerva before transferring to The Timken Steel Company. There, he worked in the shipping and receiving department and also as a crane operator, retiring after 29 years of dedicated service.

Mike was a devoted member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. Even when he was no longer able to attend Mass in person, he remained faithful by watching services each Sunday morning. He enjoyed collecting coins, bowling, and spending time with friends in his bowling leagues. He also cherished trips to the casinos with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of over 49 years, Leslie I. (Dickson) Krajcovic, who passed away on May 19, 2014; his siblings, Fr. Bernard Krajcovic, Bernadette Krajcovic, Jerome Krajcovic, John Francis Krajcovic, and Patrick Krajcovic; and his twin infant brothers, James and Paul Krajcovic.

Mike is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann (Kenny) LeMasters and Patricia (Larry) Barrick; his sons, Floid (Diane) Krajcovic, Robert (Betty) Krajcovic, and Ted (Barb) Krajcovic; his daughter, Yvonne Krajcovic; seven grandchildren, Antoinette, Whitney, Kyle, Melissa, Floid, Nickolas, and Jordan; five great-grandchildren, Lilly, Ryan, Peyton, Sawyer, and Jensen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, at Sanders Funeral Home, 218 E. Nassau St., East Canton, Ohio 44730. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., with Fr. Thomas Dyer officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.

Susan R. Henderson, age 76, of Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Aultman Compassionate Care Center. She was born in Marietta, Ohio, on March 16, 1950, to the late Ralph A. and Lillian Lural (Hartford) Lichtenwalter.

Susan was a 1969 graduate of Canton South High School, where she was an active member of the marching band. Music remained an important part of her life, and she continued her passion as a devoted member of Fellowship Baptist Church, sharing her talents by singing and playing instruments for the congregation. She also remained active with the Canton South Alumni Band for many years.

Throughout her working life, Susan was employed in a variety of roles, including working for Buckeye Security at numerous locations. She also worked for nearly four years at Century Products, where she helped manufacture baby furniture.

Susan enjoyed crafting and staying busy, but her greatest joy was her family. She gave selflessly of her time and love, providing devoted care and support to her twin sister as well as her mother- and father-in-law. Her kindness, dedication, and nurturing spirit touched everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Brian W. Henderson; her twin sister, Sandy Lichtenwalter; and her brother, Dennis Lichtenwalter.

Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of 50 years, Gary Henderson; her sons, Eric (Rhonda) Layne, Christopher (Cari) Irvin, and Daniel Henderson; along with 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Per her wishes there will be no services.

Jeffrey A. “Jeff” Pohovey, age 65 of Beach City, OH passed away at the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on March 24, 2026. He was born in Massillon, Ohio to Paul J. and Dorothy (Thomas) Pohovey.

Jeff graduated from Fairless High School in 1978, shortly after high school he started working with Tank Services.

He worked for Tank Services for over 46 years, actively working as their Project Manager.

Jeff was an avid outdoorsmen and woodworker. He was known to be able to make anything out of a piece of wood. Learning most of his skills in honor of his father.

Those left to cherish his memories are mother, Dorothy (Thomas) Pohovey; his wife of over 11 years whom he married on February 14, 2016, Lisa A. (Chandler) Pohovey; daughter, Ashley (Jeremy) Swiger; son, Adam (Gennifer) Pohovey; three brothers, Donald (Melanie) Pohovey, Gary (Kim) Pohovey and Bill (Carlos) Pohovey; two grandsons, Devon and Gavyn Swiger; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Julie and Gerald Wojcehowski, along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his father, Paul J. Pohovey.

To honor his wishes there will be a calling hours held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Geib Funeral Home in Dover, Ohio from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Grant Nelson Ray Simmons, age 7 months, left this world way too soon on March 10, 2026. He was born in Canton on July 11, 2025 to Melissa and Brad.

Though Grant's time here was not nearly long enough, he touched the lives of all those who were lucky enough to know him. Grant was full of life and was always smiling. He enjoyed Cocomelon and his toy excavator. He will always be remembered as his mommy's little stink.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Don Bennett and Rick Simmons; brother, Remy Lee Simmons; and his uncle, Jerome Simmons.

Grant will forever be cherished and loved by his parents, Melissa Williams and Brad Simmons; grandmothers, Pamela Bennett and Rose Simmons; siblings, Chris (Mesha) and Cole Williams, Destany Blake, Diem, Camila, Zeke, Leni, Jackson and Kayleigh Simmons; as well as many other friends and family members who were blessed by his presence.

Family and friends may visit at The Sanctuary Church of God (6535 Maplebrook St NE, East Canton, OH 44730) on Monday, March 23, 2026 from 10am until 12pm. Grant's funeral service will begin at 12pm with Pastor Steve Stewart officiating. Grant will then be laid to rest with his grandfather at Bethlehem Cemetery.
