🇺🇸 Thank a Veteran Thursday 🇺🇸

This week, we honor two extraordinary Vietnam War heroes — Maj. John Duffy and Staff Sgt. Edward Kaneshiro — who were recently awarded the Medal of Honor for their incredible acts of valor.

Maj. Duffy, even after being wounded, continued to call in airstrikes from dangerously close positions to protect his fellow soldiers. Staff Sgt. Kaneshiro, with complete selflessness, single-handedly cleared an enemy trench so his men could withdraw safely — an act his children say continues to inspire them to “be a better person, to be courageous and to have integrity.”

At the White House ceremony, President Biden said these awards were about “setting the record straight” after more than 50 years, reminding us that “time has not diminished their astonishing bravery, their selflessness in putting the lives of others ahead of their own, and the gratitude that we as a nation owe them.”

At Comfort Keepers, we proudly honor and care for veterans like Maj. Duffy and Staff Sgt. Kaneshiro. Through compassionate, personalized in-home support, we ensure those who sacrificed so much for our nation live with dignity, respect, and comfort.

Dehydration can have serious consequences: studies show it’s one of the top 10 reasons for hospitalizations in older adults, leading to confusion, urinary tract infections, kidney issues, and even falls. In fact, research suggests that up to 40% of seniors admitted to the hospital are dehydrated on arrival. 🚑

That’s where Comfort Keepers can help. Our caregivers are trained to recognize the signs of dehydration, encourage regular fluid intake, and provide reminders or assistance in preparing hydrating snacks and drinks. From offering a refreshing glass of water during a walk to helping track daily fluid goals, we’re here to support healthier habits that keep seniors safe and strong.

Today we had the joy of surprising Emily during orientation with flowers, goodies, and a special plaque recognizing her 10 years of dedicated service with Comfort Keepers! 💐🍪🏆

Emily’s journey with us has been such an inspiration. She began as a caregiver, then grew into recruiting, moved into HR, and today serves as our Director of Human Resources. Her hard work, loyalty, and passion for people have made a lasting impact on our team and the families we serve. 💙

At Comfort Keepers, we call it the “Comfort Keepers Family” for a reason — and Emily is a shining example of why. Over the years we’ve had the privilege of watching her grow both professionally and personally: getting married, starting her family, and continuing to build her career with such dedication.
