It’s been a minute! Posting to see who is still here and to share an update.

A reminder that a doula is a person who provides physical and emotional support, presence and educational information to individuals and families during significant reproductive thresholds of life (conception, pregnancy, labor, birth, miscarriage or abortion).

They do not provide medical care. But I am in the middle of my path to become an RN and plan to focus in on labor and delivery, prior to continuing on to midwifery.

I am not actively taking on full-spectrum doula clients while I’m in nursing school. But if you’d like focused support in the form of individual consultation during summer of 2025, I am opening my calendar for a few spaces. Reach out now to plan ahead.

I can feel it ALL.

Even when it’s heavy + grief filled, I can still access joy.

You can too.

Contact with nature helps me stay grounded + joy filled. It’s also an essential aspect of the postpartum care I provide - whether that is through helping the parent find a way to get outside OR setting them up near a window that provides a view of nature OR bringing nature in with flowers or an herbal bath or tea. Nature heals.

This is one of my favorite places to get rooted. These big trees remind me of my place within it all. Today the sun came out just for a moment to say good morning + offer some joy.

How do you get grounded or find joy?

“Your absence is noticed.”

A dear friend + mentor shared this with me almost exactly a year ago, as I moved closer toward bringing forth the vision of Nourish with Purpose and said goodbye to MamaBirth YOGA.

She said that everywhere I go, every human’s life I touch, it’s is noticed and felt deeply - in my work and in my personal life. My presence is powerful and my absence is powerfully felt. This was the essence of the Oracle energy and wisdom she shared.

This weekend, I gathered at , the home of my dear friend for the second annual (side note, I am soooo proud of you Tere! YOU are powerful + to see the culmination of your life’s work come together in this way fills my heart).

This story, is about Maria though. This is her in an embrace with me, holding her phone with a photo of her ‘baby’ who is now 9 yr old. She came up to me after a workshop this weekend and asked “Do you, did you teach yoga? Are you…???” Which opened the most beautiful conversation and connection. Yes, I do, yes I did, yes I am… Sarah of MamaBirth YOGA. Maria participated in prenatal and postpartum yoga with me 10 yrs ago in Syracuse. She shared what it meant and the loved flooded in.

I’ve been a little quiet with my work lately. But it is still here, in my ♥️, waiting to create the next evolution of the ways I will be present.

I never forget any of you who have trusted me to hold space for the reproductive thresholds of your life. I love you. You are always with me.

While I continue to embrace the rest and the quiet of now and creative energy that will flow next, thank you for your patience and continued trust.

💫I N T U I T I O N 💫

This is your reminder to listen to your intuition, your gut feeling, your body, your spirit guides, your spidey sense… whatever you want to call it.

Intuition is vital in pregnancy, labor, birth and parenting. It will ALWAYS tell you what to do or not do, when you get quiet enough to hear.

And in life, outside of reproductive choices, well… send that text, say the thing, do what you know is the next right thing OR choose to say no. If you aren’t sure… take a minute to slow down and listen to what your body is telling you. There is wisdom in how the body feels and responds to the choices we make.

Today I followed up with clients. They responded with similar responses, such as “That’s exactly what I needed.”

How did I know?

I was still and I simply said what came to me.

Closing my eyes and placing my hands on a tree with my bare feet on the ground is one of my favorite ways to ground and center into stillness and it only takes a moment!

What do you do to feel grounded when you only have a few minutes?

Today postpartum support looked like:

✨helping big sis get ready for school
✨playing with and holding baby while mama drove big sis to school
✨hanging diapers on a line in the sun
✨ doing a load of towels and napkins
✨ making PB banana toast and tea for mama
✨ doing dishes + tidying the kitchen

But maybe MOST important: ✨listening✨ which included validating, affirming, holding space, offering resources + ideas. This was an hour of the support. Everything else contributed to an easier postpartum, for sure.

But being SEEN and HEARD takes away some of the isolation.

Postpartum is hard.
Parenting is hard.
Partnering is hard.

We do this all in isolation and in the middle of the dumpster-fire that is happening all around us.

If you know a parent who is postpartum or in the early years of parenting… listen to them (and bring food, always bring food).

L O V E letter...

‘Sarah is an angel in my birth story, and a “fairy picnic girl” in my daughters’ experience of it. She is receptive, sensitive, attentive, and has a big strong heart. You can always feel the love in her cooking and in anything she brings to, or offers you. You can also always sense that she is giving what she is ready to give.

Her care always comes from a place of deep respect. For you, for herself, for the family, for humanity, and for the mystery that is birth and birth’s journey.

She has a light heart and is able to laugh with you through some of the obstacles that come along with births’ journey. She knows what is relatable and universal to motherhood, and that creates a feeling of comradery and understanding.

I have worked with another doula during birth as well, but my experiences with Sarah (during one postpartum period, and then a second birth + postpartum period) left nothing undone. I hold that experience in my heart as an honor to have lived, and to have received such care, and shared reverence, in a moment as big as we are.’

This was by far, my favorite part of this process. Receiving these photos and love notes to use on my new site. It filled me with so much deep joy, reverence + affirmation for the work I get to do.

I LOVE you! I really do.

dou.la | doo-luh

(n.) A person who provides physical and emotional support, presence and educational information to individuals and families during significant reproductive thresholds of life.

As we were prepare to enter 2022, like many of you, I also hoped we’d be through the pandemic by now.

We very much are not.

As a doula, our collective care is center for me, so I’ll continue to offer virtual services and when it feels mutually right for both me and my client, we’ll work together in person. For the foreseeable future much of my in person offerings will be masked.

I’m not sure actual balance in life as a parent is ever achieved. It often seems like a mythical idea to me.

🦄 🦄 🦄

Balance in family life feels more like a teetering on the edge / a give and take / sometimes a swim upstream or a float downstream.

I do know this though... the closer I walk toward who I am, the more I’m able to trust that even if I fall down (we all do), as I attempt to balance the many facets of being human, I’ll manage to get back up. As I grow more + more into myself as a parent, that’s what I want my children to witness. Even if it means I let the water take me downstream for a while, it’s all part of the process.

Walk towards.

Or walk away from.

Swim.

Or float.

Just allow yourself to be human in your parenting.

Nourishing it, means moving in a variety of ways that are available + accessible. Walks, hikes, biking, climbing, traditional asana and are a few that work for me. It also means loving it wholly, not how it used to look/be 10 years ago and not how it may look next year... but right now, this body that I’ve been gifted to live inside of this time around.

💕 Loving it wholly, as is. 💕

This doesn’t come easy in a culture that tricks us into believing that we should/could ‘get back to’ a certain body type after it’s a portal for another human(s) to come earth-side.

This movement is the fastest way for me to release anything I’m holding in my body.

AND all of my movement practices, almost always have a guest visit or side-by-side participant from a child.

At some point, I’ll begin sharing some short practices specifically for pregnancy + postpartum here. Until then, check out some of the practices I’ve shared from other teachers. We all have something unique to offer.

H E R B S for postpartum support

Postpartum is anytime after a pregnancy.

Yes, you are postpartum after a miscarriage.

A dear friend reached out yesterday seeking ways to support, nourish + love her friend who recently had a miscarriage. This person is someone you want in your circle, I know because she’s in mine too! 😉 Most of us often don’t know how to respond to people during this time. Culturally we’ve done a s**t job of showing up for folks after miscarriage. When we shift our ways of being to include this time with postpartum, we can show up with love + hold each other through it. It doesn’t have to be hidden, secret, minimized or diminished.

Miscarriage impacts 1 in 4 pregnant people.

I am still deeply grateful for the folks who circled round to hold + support me through my own miscarriage 8+ years ago. It uplifted + empowered me.

One offering of support can be in plant allies. I made my favorite warming / healing postpartum tea blend + a peri steam / herbal bath blend for this friend to give to her friend. Plant allies are a beautiful way to integrate healing + nourishment during all reproductive thresholds.

Both will be available to purchase on my new website... coming late winter 2022.
