Congratulations to Jeffrey Sommers, certified physician assistant (PA-C) in Mercy Hospital's Emergency Department, for recently receiving a coveted Legacy Coin from Cleveland Clinic CEO and President, Tom Mihaljevic, MD.

Jeffrey was honored with this recognition for the care his provides his patients and for his quick action to save the life of a stranded motorist.

As part of our recognition coin program, Legacy Coins are special coins that can only be awarded by Tom Mihaljevic and Kelly Hancock, DNP, Chief Caregiver Officer for Cleveland Clinic.

To further foster a culture of appreciation, Recognition Coins were introduced in 2023, inspired by the tradition of challenge coins that military personnel use to honor their colleagues. Cleveland Clinic’s specially crafted coins are distributed throughout the organization, empowering managers and caregivers to personally acknowledge the exceptional effort of their team members and colleagues who go above and beyond to help someone or put forth extra effort to support others' well-being.

Congratulations, Jeffrey!

Thank you, Santa Claus (nurse manager, Dan Lane, DNP, RN, CNE, NE-BC) and his "reindeer" Prancer, for traveling all the way from the North Pole to spread Christmas cheer to our caregivers during Mercy leadership's December rounding.

Aside from visits with the big man himself, our caregivers were treated to coffee and snacks courtesy of Mission and Ministry.

We truly appreciate our Mercy caregivers and are grateful for all they do!

Oh, what fun it is to have a holiday pajama party with our babies in the Cleveland Clinic Children's NICU!🎄Parents and caregivers dressed these bundles of joy in festive attire. Their hats are a handmade gift. While families may be away from home, we hope this brings them cheer!💗

Please join us in congratulating Jaimie Crumbley, physical therapist, for being chosen as the most recent recipient of Mercy Hospital's Onyx Award.

The Onyx Award recognizes Mercy clinical professionals who provide outstanding care and support outside of the nursing profession.

Jaimie was nominated by a fellow Mercy caregiver who writes, "She (Jaimie) cares for every patient she interacts with and enters every room with a smile and a positive attitude, eager to mobilize and educate." The nomination further praises her for extending her caring and dedicated nature toward her fellow Mercy caregivers in so many ways. "We are lucky to have her as part of our team."

"Jaimie takes pride and ownership of providing physical therapy in the critical care areas. She is eager to improve all patients, and her desire is to mobilize everyone in these areas," praised Dax Dipold, PT, Therapy manager at Mercy. Dax adds that Jaimie has been a great addition to the Mercy Therapy Services team for the past (almost) 5 years. She has taken the initiative and is currently working on training staff to mobilize all patients in critical care.

Well done, Jaimie - thank you for all you do for your patients and your fellow caregivers!

Congratulations to Mallory Ando, BSN, RN, a nurse on our Intensive Care Unit (ICU), for receiving Mercy's most recent DAISY Award for nursing excellence.

In nominating Mallory, a fellow caregiver noted she (Mallory) deserves to be celebrated for the incredible care she provides her patients because she "is always making sure that everyone else is celebrated" and recognized. The nomination praised Mallory for being an advocate for her patients, ensuring their needs are met and that they are treated like family. "She puts her heart into the care she provides, and it truly shows".

"Mallory has a beautiful, caring heart that she extends to her patients, families and peers," explains Laura Miller, Mercy ICU nurse manager. "Her care and compassion shines through every day, and she is a blessing to the ICU team!"

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the exceptional, compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day. Cleveland Clinic collaborates with the DAISY Foundation to provide ongoing recognition of the clinical skill and compassion nurses provide to patients and families all year long.

Congratulations, Mallory!
