Today is "Thanksgiving Meal Planning Day" (unofficially).

If you have a question about how to prepare meat, poultry, or egg products, call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline toll free at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854).

This toll-free telephone service, which began July 1, 1985, helps prevent foodborne illness by answering questions about the safe storage, handling, and preparation of meat, poultry, and egg products.

The Hotline is open year-round Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET (English or Spanish) and recorded food safety messages are available 24 hours a day.

The rising rate of preterm birth is unacceptable. That’s why this Prematurity Awareness Month, we’re shining a light on the facts and the ways you can take action.

With 1 in 10 babies born too soon each year and the U.S. preterm birth rate at a 15-year high, we need to do better. And together, we can. 💜

November highlights the challenges of preterm birth, leading up to World Prematurity Day on November 17. In the U.S., 1 in 10 babies is born too soon, impacting families and communities everywhere.

Premature birth can be overwhelming, but families aren’t alone. WIC is here to support moms, babies, and caregivers with nutrition, breastfeeding help, and resources.

Let’s raise awareness and advocate for healthier beginnings for all babies. 💜

💜 Entendiendo los Nacimientos Prematuros 👶

Los nacimientos prematuros pueden ocurrir por muchas razones — a veces médicas, a veces desconocidas. 💭

Algunos factores comunes incluyen:
• Embarazo múltiple (gemelos, trillizos)
• Infecciones
• Presión arterial alta o preeclampsia
• Ciertas condiciones de salud

Pero sin importar la causa, el apoyo, la conciencia y la atención prenatal temprana marcan la diferencia.

💜 Understanding Premature Births 👶
Premature births can happen for many reasons — sometimes medical, sometimes unknown. 💭

Common factors include:

• Multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets)
• Infections
• High blood pressure or preeclampsia
• Certain health conditions

But no matter the cause, support, awareness, and early care make all the difference.

✨ Knowledge is Power! While not all preterm births can be prevented, regular, early prenatal care is one of the most important steps a mother can take. Talk to your provider about the signs of preterm labor and ways to reduce your risk.
