Our next featured nurse is Kim.

What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy caring for others.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I started my healthcare career in 2002 as a CNA. After many years I got my Med-Tech certificate. I missed bedside care, so I went back to the CNA work while I earned my L.P.N certificate. I am currently enrolled to obtain my RN license. My family has been my rock and support through my journey. Healthcare is where I belong.

Tell us a little bit about your family.
I have three children and three stepchildren. I am newly engaged and look forward to my wedding next June.

What advice would you give to recent new hires?
This is a job that you work from your heart not for the paycheck. Compassion drives the joy of your job.

What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?
There is no such thing as leaving on time.
It takes a team to complete everything.
Every day is a new beginning.

What are your hopes for our industry?
Promote a positive work environment that provides a positive work environment for residents.

What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?
Being at bedside with residents and listening to their life stories.

People would be surprised if they knew:
I enjoy carpentry and remodeling.

What did you want to be when growing up?
A doctor, but I quickly realized that doctors do not spend enough time at bedside.

What is something you always wanted to try and haven’t yet?
Water skiing.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Trail riding, and mudding in the SxS, camping, reading, campfires, and BBQ’s.

What is the most important thing you have learned in the last five years?
With nursing, there is no such thing as just one more minute, or expecting that a job will end on time.

What is the one thing you cannot resist?
Chocolate.

What is the one thing, you can’t live without?
My hair straightener. Lol

What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Raw oysters.

Our next feature is on Michele. She is our director of nursing.

What do you like most about your job?
The daily interaction with my residents.

A little about myself/my family:
Started at Sandy River at age 16 as a CNA, went to nursing school after having 5 children. Married for 37yrs this month, Mimi to 6 and a Grand Mimi to one. 2 dogs and 2 cats. Love to hike, camp, riding the sxs/wheelers, crocheting and spending time with my family.

What advice would I give to new hires:
There will be rough days but there will be many good days, so stick with it!

What are three lessons you've learned thus far? The doctor isn't always right, trust your instinct and speak up, and always be willing to learn something new.

What is my hope for the industry?
That we take care of our elderly better.

People would be surprised if they knew:
I hiked Katahdin on my birthday last year, didn't make it quite to the summit but to the 'tablelands' so I was close! I could see the sign but it was misting and late afternoon so had to turn around. It's a goal for this summer!

What did you want to be when I grew up? A lawyer.

What is something always wanted to try and haven't yet? Sky diving, on my list!

What do I like to do in my sparetime- answered earlier.

What is the most important thing I've learned in the past 5 years.
Not to take things so personally (still learning but getting better I think!) and make time for myself.

What is the one thing I cannot resist? Whenever I hear birds singing, I love to take a few moments and listen. And when I see lilacs, I have to have one to smell.

What is the one thing I cannot live without? My family.

What is the weirdest job I've ever had? I started in McDonalds then I've only done nursing so not sure?

What is the weirdest thing I've ever eaten? Alligator and Okra, not a fan!

Our next nurse feature will be Bonnie. She has written a brief bio of her own to share.

When I was 16 years old, my father got hurt and was bed-ridden for a while. My mother worked and I took care of five of us. So, I took care of my father and loved that job. When the school offered a C.N.A course it was the first time the course was offered there. There were so many applicants, that we were interviewed. I was one that was picked, I was thrilled. I graduated top of my class.

Ten Years later I attended CMVTI college in Auburn. I loved nursing school and people gave high praise from my patients. After graduation I did many nursing jobs. My greatest achievement was taking care of residents at the Villa now Pinnacle. I presently still work at Pinnacle Part time so on my days off I can do things I enjoy now. Everything that I done or accomplished has been by the hand of God.
