“I went to treatment… but I’m not cured.”
It’s something many people feel but don’t always say out loud.
Treatment is not a magic switch. Real recovery is a process of healing, rebuilding, and learning how to live differently one day at a time.
In our newest blog post, we talk about why treatment is the beginning not the end and what lasting recovery truly looks like.
Spiritual practices can support recovery but they don’t require religion or any specific belief.
Mindfulness, gratitude, reflection, and time in nature have been shown to reduce stress, improve emotional health, and support long term recovery even for people who are not religious.
At Windmill Wellness, we believe healing works best when choice comes first. Evidence based tools that help people reconnect with themselves and find meaning in a way that feels safe and personal.
Curious how this works in recovery? Read more below.
Gentle spiritual practices can support addiction recovery, trauma healing, and mental health, even if you do not believe in any god or follow any religion.

This is an important and necessary discussion around Kratom. At Windmill, we’ve seen the real risks that can come with substances that are often misunderstood or lightly regulated. While access to care is critical, so is protecting individuals from harm. We appreciate policymakers taking a closer look at safety, oversight, and long-term impact.
A new bill in the Utah State Legislature could ban kratom in the state if it becomes law.
Some lawmakers and experts weighed in about the potential dangers of the substance in a committee meeting Monday. But it faced pushback from some people who would lose the means to a treatment that they wouldn’t get access to otherwise.

Kratom vs. 7-OH: The Social-Media Turf War That’s Putting People at Risk
If you’ve noticed more posts or ads promising calm energy, focus, or pain relief from something called kratom or 7-OH, you’re seeing a digital turf war unfold. A small industry of influencers and even automated bots flood social media with glowing reviews. But poison-control centers and hospitals are seeing more kratom-related emergencies every year.

Keeping Healthy Boundaries During the Holiday Season:
For individuals and families touched by addiction or in early recovery, this time of year can feel especially complicated. And underneath these worries is a deeply human wish: If only I could get my loved one to see what I see, or feel what I feel.
This desire is understandable, but it is also the place where many of us lose ourselves.
When people talk about a high functioning alcoholic, they usually mean someone who can hold a job, care for family, and manage daily responsibilities, all while drinking heavily or regularly. In these cases, it's often become a coping tool, a habit, or a hidden priority. Does this sound like someone you know?

Recent Teen Su***de Highlights Dangers of Unsupervised AI Among Youth
More people than ever are turning to the Internet and artificial intelligence (AI) tools for answers about their health, mental health, and even spiritual lives. But when it comes to mental health, the stakes are too high to rely on unvetted guidance. With mental health, AI can't read 'body language' and other human clues for underlying issues and needs for help.
We often trust anything labeled “natural,” but that doesn’t always mean harmless. Some substances being sold as "all natural," like kratom, 7OH, or cannabis concentrates, can carry serious risks.

Windmill Wellness Ranch is a co-occurring inpatient and outpatient treatment center for alcoholism, drug addiction, and mental health issues. We have a full medical detoxification wing for those that need stabilization or detoxification.
It is located on a 75-acre ranch settled in 1840 in the beautiful Texas Hill Country on the north side of Canyon Lake. Nearby cities are Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels, San Antonio, Boerne, and Fredericksburg. We serve patients from all over the United States.
Windmill Wellness Ranch was created out of necessity. It became clear to some of the most experienced Clinicians and Doctors that Texas did not have a holistic wellness center that addressed co-occurring disorders at a level that truly restored a person’s mental and psychical health for good. WWR is the only center designated by the State of Texas as a COSPD (co-occuring psychiatric disorders) facility.
Many people have sought help but were unable to get what they need, this was due to what is required to truly treat the entire person. Research and experience shows that addressing the underlying disorder takes Master’s Level Clinical staff to diagnosis and then treat the problem. This is done in conjunction with a psychiatrist. We do not simply give you a pill for depression or anxiety, we examine where that disorder originated. We then treat this using evidenced based practice. Many have not recognized that alcohol or substances i.e. prescription pills, illegal drugs are a symptom of a larger issue. If that issue is not addressed and treated the cycle will continue. We recognize we are dealing with individuals that need to address these issues and left unaddressed can be lethal.
The mission of Windmill Wellness Ranch is to improve the physical, spiritual and emotional health of the individual and their family through an integrated healing system of the latest technology irTMS from Brain Frequency Center, Eye Movement Desentization Reprocessing (EMDR), intensive therapy , group support, nursing, and psychiatry.
We believe that transformation in recovery involves individualized treatment to heal any underlying issues while treating the brain with a personalized approach to restore balance using PrTMS.
Our multidisciplinary staff is trained to help with trauma, depression MDD, PTSD, substance abuse/ dependance, anxiety, mood disorders, TBI/concussion, ADHD, OCD, sleep disorders, chronic pain and behavioral addictions.
We strive to build a strong community of recovery that will last a lifetime.
