According to Patanjali, yoga is the practice of calming the fluctuations of the mind (chitta vritti nirodha). In the Yoga Sutras, he describes an eightfold path (Ashtanga Yoga), which includes ethical principles (yama and niyama), physical postures (asana), breath control (pranayama), sense withdrawal (pratyahara), concentration (dharana), meditation (dhyana), and ultimate absorption (samadhi). This path leads to self-realization and liberation by uniting the body, mind, and spirit.

Half Circle Pose (Ardha Mandalasana) is a side stretching pose that stretches the whole side of the body from fingers to foot and is beneficial for maintaining a healthy spine. The whole of the front of the body is opened, as well as the hips, stimulating the respiratory system and helping to reduce the effects of stress. Ardha Mandalasana also stimulates the lymphatic system, the kidneys and the adrenal glands and is great for awakening all of the chakras.
