MEET THE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE 🎓
Maureen brings a heartfelt passion for education and a lifetime of teaching experience to the Gulf Coast Village Foundation Scholarship Committee. Originally from New Jersey, Maureen has been part of the Gulf Coast Village community for three years, celebrating that milestone in April 2026.
Maureen dedicated 30 years of her career to education as a high school business teacher, shaping the lives of countless students along the way. She always knew she wanted to be a teacher, and after attending business school and working as a secretary, she followed that calling into the classroom—combining real-world experience with education to help her students succeed.
Her career not only reflects her commitment to learning, but also the values she continues to live by. Maureen believes deeply in kindness, patience, and truly listening—encouraging others to listen with an open heart and open mind, remain grateful, and live by the Golden Rule.
Now retired, Maureen continues to support education alongside her husband and remains dedicated to giving back. Encouraged by Pastor Cheryl to join the Foundation Scholarship Committee, she embraced the opportunity to continue investing in students and their futures.
One of Maureen’s favorite parts of the scholarship process is getting to know each candidate—learning about their personal stories, as well as their hopes and dreams. She looks for applicants who demonstrate sincerity, honesty, enthusiasm, and realistic goals.
Having balanced responsibilities throughout her own life, Maureen offers simple but powerful advice to students pursuing education while working: you can do it if you try—don’t give up. She reminds others that many students are working harder than we may realize, and perseverance makes all the difference.
Maureen believes scholarships play an important role in opening doors. Financial assistance helps students move forward, and seeing fellow students earn scholarships can inspire others to pursue their own goals.
She also emphasizes that every act of giving matters. Whether large or small, each donation helps support a student’s future—and even a simple, anonymous contribution can make a meaningful difference.
Through her work on the committee, Maureen continues to do what she has always done best—uplift, encourage, and invest in the next generation.
