Can you buy hearing aids like reading glasses?
Short answer: Not quite.

While over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids exist, hearing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Unlike reading glasses, hearing loss varies in type, severity, and cause—and a professional fitting ensures:

🔍 The right device for your needs
🎯 Precise tuning for your unique hearing profile
🎧 Better clarity and comfort not just volume
👂 Ongoing support from an audiologist

Hearing is complex. Don’t settle for “close enough.”

Get the care your ears deserve! Contact us today at (239) 230-3799 for an appointment.

What happens if hearing loss goes untreated?

It’s more than just “not hearing well.”
Untreated hearing loss can lead to:

🔇 Social isolation
🧠 Increased risk of cognitive decline
🩺 Higher chance of depression and anxiety
💬 Communication struggles with loved ones
⚠️ Greater risk of falls and accidents

The good news?

A hearing check is quick, easy, and can dramatically improve your quality of life.

Don’t wait—your hearing health matters. Call us today at (239) 230-3799.

August 17 – National Nonprofit Day

Today, we celebrate the heart of service: nonprofits making a difference in real lives every day.

At Hearing the Call, we believe that everyone deserves the gift of hearing. Through outreach, access, and ongoing care, we’re working to close the hearing healthcare gap — one patient, one community at a time.

Your support helps turn compassion into action and sound into connection. If you would like to help give the gift of hearing, we encourage you to go to hearingthecall.org and donate.

Thank you for being part of the solution.

Today is National Tell a Joke Day and in honor of it we share this joke with you. Though it is funny, it is important for everyone to get access to hearing healthcare.

We will be working with our group to lobby Congress this fall to help get people the hearing help they need.

How Can I Make Communication Easier for Someone Who Uses Hearing Aids?

Supporting someone with hearing aids goes beyond volume — it’s about connection. Here are a few simple ways to help:

🔹 Face them when speaking
🔹 Speak clearly (not louder)
🔹 Reduce background noise
🔹 Be patient and repeat if needed
🔹 Use gestures or visual cues when helpful

Better communication makes for stronger relationships — and healthier lives.

Honoring Women & Hearing Health – National Women’s Day

On this National Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and brilliance of women everywhere — and we’re here to support your wellness from the inside out, including your hearing.

Did you know women are often the first to notice hearing changes in loved ones — and sometimes the last to prioritize their own? Your hearing health matters, too.

Let today be a reminder: take time to listen to your body, your mind, and your ears. Regular hearing checkups are part of your wellness journey.

We’re here for you — every step, every sound, every story.

National Wellness Month: Hearing Edition

🎧 Are both my ears affected equally?

Great question — and the answer is: Not always.
Many people experience asymmetrical hearing loss, where one ear hears better than the other. This can be caused by things like:
• Noise exposure
• Ear infections
• Earwax buildup
• Underlying medical conditions

Even a small difference between ears can affect how you localize sound, understand speech in noise, or stay balanced.

💡 Your ears are a team — if one struggles, the other has to work harder.

That’s why regular hearing checks are a vital part of your overall wellness routine. Make an appointment at Chippendale Audiology today by calling (239) 230-3799 .

We often get asked, “What are the different types of hearing loss?”

Let’s break it down:

🔊 Conductive Hearing Loss
Caused by problems in the outer or middle ear — like earwax buildup, infections, or fluid. Often temporary and treatable.

🎧 Sensorineural Hearing Loss
The most common type. This involves damage to the inner ear or auditory nerve — often permanent and usually treated with hearing aids.

🔁 Mixed Hearing Loss
A combination of conductive and sensorineural. It means both the outer/middle and inner ear are affected.

👂 No matter the type, understanding your hearing loss is the first step to better hearing — and better living.

Make an appointment at Chippendale Audiology to get your hearing checked today by calling (239) 230-3799 and take control of your wellness.
