Interesting info ... another reason we need to be more aware of our food choices ... and perhaps consider using supplements.
In order to receive the same amount of iron you used to get from one apple in 1950, by 1998 you had to eat 26 apples! The reason food doesn't taste as good as it used to is also related to the deterioration of mineral content. The minerals actually form the compounds that give the fruit or vegetable its flavor.
As demineralization increases, disease rates rise. Magnesium goes down which is needed to relax blood vessels and we have high blood pressure. Selenium goes down which is needed to protect the thyroid and we have an epidemic of thyroid disease.
So we have "fresh" produce that not only has less taste (which is the reason why many people don't "care for" fresh fruits and vegetables) and why they have far less nutrients.
So what caused all of this in the last 50 years? RoundUp. Monsanto. Chemical factory-style farming. Before chemical fertilizers, insecticides, and pesticides came into use, farmers had farms with many animals and crops, using the animals' manure to replenish nutrients in the soil. Today, large-scale company farms skip the nutrient-dense compost/manure and use chemicals.
So what does this mean for the average American? It means:
--We are blessed to have easy access to nutritional supplements. Utilizing good-quality vitamin and mineral supplements, as well as things like juicing machines for juicing fresh organic vegetables to help get a higher amount of nutrients from natural foods, will substantially help with reducing disease and illness. (Check out how juicing organic vegetables can even eliminate cancer here: http://healthyfamiliesforgod.com/2014/07/healing-cancer-gerson-therapy/ )
--We should choose organic as much as possible. (Check out my article on how to start an organic produce co-op and get organic fruits and vegetables for 1/3-1/2 the price! http://healthyfamiliesforgod.com/2012/11/how-to-get-cheap-and-fresh-organic-produce/
--Even better, we should grow our own food as much as possible and utilize natural methods like composting, raising animals for manure, etc. to replenish soil with these nutrients. As an added bonus, it will have a tremendous taste difference! I mean, have you ever tasted a fresh, homegrown tomato straight from the plant in an organic garden?! The taste is a million times different than store-bought tomatoes!
