💆🏽‍♀️ What can your massage therapist do for you? 🤔

👍🏼Your massage therapist CAN and SHOULD:

✔️Assess your needs and develop a treatment plan

✔️Perform passive stretching

✔️Manipulate the soft tissue of the body

✔️Hold space for your emotions and listen to you

✔️Seek consent prior to treatment

✔️Abide by HIPPA standards

✔️Refer you to other professionals if you are seeking anything outside of the legal scope of practice

👎🏼 Your massage therapist CANNOT and SHOULD NOT:

❌Prescribe medication or nutritional advice

❌Give medical diagnosis

❌Perform esthetic techniques like facials, chemical peels, extractions

❌Perform spinal manipulation

❌Acupuncture

—————————————————————

🌟 Scope of practice is the legal, ethical, and educational boundaries of a professional of any kind. Doctors, nurses, chiropractors, estheticians, therapists, etc, all have a scope of practice.

🌟 Abiding to scope of practice is an indicator of integrity and a way to keep clients safe.

✨The program I have developed will emphasize the importance of the scope of practice in order to put out safe massage therapists who value integrity. Not to mention the background and vibe checks that will be performed.✨

🎉 Can’t wait to see everybody May 8th at 5:00pm at 210 N Frederick Street! 🎉

Ways I relax that aren’t massage
(and free)

1. Epsom salt baths
2. Getting outside on the grass as much as possible
3. Turning my phone off every Sunday
4. Putting my phone in a different room when I sleep
5. Screaming into the void
6. Yoga
7. Deep breathing with a weighted blanket on my chest
8. Painting

Massage is like a hard reset but it is not and should not be the only way you kick your nervous system out of fight or flight.

Building a solid and intentional routine that is based around what works best for you is the only way to prevent stress related issues. Of course massage is a great thing to keep in rotation 😉

Now go lay in the grass.

We all need to unclench sometimes.

Jamie Masters once taught me in a yoga class at Yoga East Healing Arts Studio that if your glutes feel stuck and you need help unclenching to do this:

😁 Squeeze your glute muscles (clench them) together as hard as you can for as long as you can then let them go.

🫡 It really works! I am a certified butt clencher and this trick has changed my life.

Give it a try if you notice yourself holding tension in your lower body!

I often like to post the fun, exciting, “good” parts of my world.

🫣 But let’s be real, life isn’t a highlight reel. So, please allow me to dish. Here we go 👇🏻

💪🏼1. Massage therapy is hard physical work! I often come home from my days worn out. Feet sore, back tired and just ready for sleep! It has taken me years to learn that rest and proper self care are the only ways to make it. I have to stretch, strength train, and take ample time resting my body.

💰2. There are typically no benefits offered to massage therapists. This is a pink collar job. Yes, we can provide for our families, but typically there is no PTO, no insurance, etc. This requires understanding ways to survive without or finding less expensive health care. Also, saving for the time off we want to take. It’s absolutely possible and thankfully our community has great resources for affordable healthcare!

📆3. Building clientele can be hard! It takes time to build a steady schedule. Luckily, our world is begging for a more holistic approach to healthcare. Massage is having a renaissance, making it easier for massage therapists to be reached by clients seeking help!

⚖️Just like every job, there are pros and cons. It’s all about asking yourself how you want to spend your time on this planet.

The mentorship program I am providing will help us make those cons a little less hard. As your mentor, I will help you put systems in place for yourself as a baby massage therapist to make the transition from student to licensed practitioner much smoother.

✨Join me May 8th at 5:00pm at 210 N Fredrick to learn more about the program!

📣Meet your Anatomy & Physiology teacher:

✨Isabelle Schott!✨

It is required by the Board of Therapeutic Massage to have 100 hours of A&P taught by an expert in the field (nurses, doctors, chiropractors, etc).

🙌🏼👩🏽‍⚕️Belle exceeds this requirement! She has her BSN and RN and over the past 12 years, she has worked in Missouri, Texas, and South Carolina! Belle’s knowledge expands beyond the medical field into the business world as she is the founder and owner of Crepe Girardeau! Not to mention the practical anatomy knowledge she has acquired through her dedicated yoga practice and being a certified meditation teacher.

👯‍♀️I am personally ecstatic and honored to have Belle join me on this journey. She is a great friend and cheerleader!

🥳Join us Friday, May 8th at 5:00pm at 210 N Frederick for more information about the massage therapy apprenticeship program!

(Also, thank you Grace Coffee + Cafe for hosting our chaos this morning! Check out my story to see what I mean lol)
