Congratulations to our ✨ FIRST-EVER ✨ Tulip Award winner, Jameka Redmond, patient care tech, for the outstanding care she provides in our medical telemetry unit at . Jameka received a bunch of nominations from patients and their families, but we wanted to highlight a couple below.

A patient nominated Jameka by writing: “Jameka was nice and helpful. She set the tone for the day. She has a pleasant smile and was very skilled. I was having problems ordering breakfast. Jameka took my vitals then went above and beyond to make sure I could order this morning before my medications got here. I really appreciate her for that! She’s a hard worker and I hope she becomes a nurse!"

A family member of a different patient said, “She is one of the kindest people we met while at Mercy. Everyone was nice to us, but Jameka went out of her way to explain what she was doing and why. She had a welcoming manner, and we fell in love with her. She showed great compassion for what was for us a scary time. We always found her patient, caring and always with a smile. We felt she deserves some special recognition for her work in making her patients and their families feel part of the healing process.”

Congratulations to Amanda Williams, RN, for earning the DAISY Foundation Award for her compassionate nursing care she provides in our oncology progressive unit at !

Amanda received two nominations from family members for the care of their loved ones receiving inpatient chemotherapy. A patient’s spouse said, “Amanda not only took the time to know them as a person but our entire family and whoever came to visit them at the time. She treated them like they were her own family. She laughed with us and cried with us and fought for us. She quickly became a lifelong friend, and it feels like there wasn’t a time in our lives that we didn’t know her. ...She is the true definition of a nurse. She shows her compassion and care, knowledge, empathy and positivity every day she worked with us. Her quirky attitude made every day brighter and we are forever in debt to her for the experience she provided for us. Amanda is the honorary sister we didn’t know we needed but God knew we did."

Another patient’s mother nominated Amanda for her “above and beyond” care during the patient’s chemotherapy treatments. “Amanda checked in often to make sure we were doing well, and she always made sure even on her days off, the next staff member knew what was scheduled for the next day. She even came in on her day off on [the patient’s] last days of chemo.”

They met a bear, made some fishy friends and had a blast doing it!

Sister Serafia and Sister Michael, Daughters of St. Francis, serve in Mercy’s Springfield communities and recently gathered for Mass and lunch with Bishop Rice. Afterward, they took their very first visit to Bass Pro Shops and the smiles say it all.

We’re so grateful for their joyful presence and for the many ways they help care for our communities.
