So grateful for the opportunity to partner with this amazing team. There’s something so special about the healing that unfolds when humans and horses come together, and the openness these men brought to the work was deeply moving. Horses reflect our inner experiences with such honesty and gentleness, and witnessing the insights that emerged through their time with the herd was an absolute honor.

Horses, as prey animals, move through the world with deep sensitivity. They notice the shifts we often miss—our breath, our posture, the emotion just beneath the surface.

In Eagala sessions, their natural responses offer gentle, honest feedback. A horse may reflect something we haven’t quite named yet, inviting awareness without judgment or agenda.

They’re simply being horses.
And in their authenticity, we often find a clearer understanding of ourselves.

Surmount Counseling is thrilled to announce our new partnership with WindWalkers Equine Assisted Learning and Therapy Center, a phenomenal nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals and families grow, heal, and thrive with the support of compassionate professionals and horses. Together, we’re creating new ways to address the mental health needs here in the Roaring Fork Valley — both in and out the saddle.

This 6-week experiential therapy group offers a powerful alternative to talk therapy, using the Eagala Model and ground-based activities with horses to support teens on their recovery journey.

In a safe, supportive space, participants will explore themes of self-worth, control, trust, and healing—while developing deeper connection with themselves and others.

🌈 Pink Pony Club: Equine Therapy for LGBTQ+ Teens 🐴
Launching June 2025 in honor of Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈

This 6-week equine-assisted therapy group is designed to meet the unique needs of LGBTQ+ youth in the Roaring Fork Valley. Using the Eagala Model, teens will engage in ground-based, hands-on activities with horses in a safe, inclusive environment.

- Build confidence and self-acceptance
- Learn emotional regulation and healthy coping skills
- Strengthen communication and authentic connection
- Explore identity, belonging, and resilience

No horse experience needed—just an open heart and a willingness to show up.
