EMS WEEK: A huge shoutout to our EMS Partners that play a vital role in patient care. On Thursday, a few members of our SIH team visited EMS partners in eight locations across Southern Illinois from Alexander County to West Frankfort.

We dropped off some snacks at Jackson County Ambulance and discussed ways to further improve collaboration to better serve patients and staff.

A huge thank you to all of our EMS providers throughout the region!

SNE 1s are allowed to provide many components of direct patient care independently within their hospital unit of hire.

DAISY WINNER: "I would like to nominate Shelby for an award in recognition of the exceptional compassion, advocacy and professionalism she demonstrated during one of the most difficult moments our family has ever faced."

Shelby Ridgley is our latest DAISY Award Winner at SIH Herrin Hospital. A patient's family nominated her.

"Shelby took the time to truly listen to our family, understand our wishes, and recognized that our goal was not to prolong his pain and suffering, but to preserve dignity and comfort. She worked closely with the medical team to help create a plan focused on comfort and peace. Her willingness to advocate for my husband and guide our family through such an incredibly painful situation made a lasting impact."

STROKE MONTH: Our stroke team spent time in all of our hospitals this past week doing fun activities to help education staff and visitors.

When stroke happens rapid treatment is vital to improving outcomes. Always remember to BEFAST.

Balance: Sudden loss of balance or coordination
Eyes: Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
Face: Facial drooping, usually on one side.
Arms (or leg): Arm/leg weakness or numbness, especially on one side.
Speech: Slurred speech or difficulty speaking.
Time: If any of these symptoms are present, call 911 immediately.

LOOKING BACK: Just a handful of photos from our Nursing Recognition Dinner earlier this month. It was a great night of honoring our nurses commitment to excellent patient care.

We celebrated award winners, those with decades of service and nurses who've furthered their knowledge with advanced degrees.

We're already looking forward to next year!

Earlier this evening, a truck struck the northwest side of SIH St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro. We're grateful to report that no patients or staff members were injured.

The driver and one passenger are currently being evaluated and treated in the emergency department.

The hospital’s main entrance remains open and patient care services continue uninterrupted. However, the main lobby remains temporarily closed at this time as crews assess the area.

We appreciate the quick response of emergency personnel and the professionalism of our hospital teams as they continue caring for our community safely and compassionately.

HEALTHCARE WEEK: We've been celebrating the hard work and dedication of our more than 4,000 employees across the SIH system this week.

It was great to give many folks at our hospitals, clinics and beyond the chance to take a brief pause and enjoy a meal, treats and fun. The compassion our employees show everyday has a direct impact on patients and their families.

We surprised Jill Fairbanks, NP with the APP Shining Star award at SIH Herrin Hospital.

"Jill is an excellent asset to the team at SIH Herrin Hospital. She truly takes the
time to assess her patients + their needs + makes sure their needs are met. She is dedicated to being sure that the patients receive excellent care from the diabetes team. I always love to see her coming to rounds on my patients, knowing she is onboard makes me feel safe + confident that they will have the best management of
their diabetes."
