In his book, S*xual Anorexia, Dr. Patrick Carnes discusses the use of 12 dimensions for exploring healthy s*xuality. These same dimensions are an important part of the three circles worksheet (i.e. Positive S*xual Focus) in task 5 of the Task Model. However, they are often underutilized by CSAT® clinicians. In this session, we will go over why these dimensions are important to your clients’ treatment, the values and benefits of using them with your clients, and the practical application of each dimension on both an individual and relationship level.

Love is a fundamental human need, but when does the pursuit of love become toxic, compulsive, or destructive? How do you differentiate Love Addiction from Codependency or Borderline Personality Disorder in your clients? And why does the pain of a breakup sometimes feel unbearable and unending?

You will learn how to apply evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Attachment Theory. You will also be introduced to other treatment modalities such as Post Induction Therapy (PIT) and Somatic Experiencing (SE) to help clients break free from the intense cycles of obsession, withdrawal, and despair. Through practical interventions, case studies, and experiential techniques, you will gain the skills to help clients move from relational extremes toward secure, healthy attachment.

Our LGBTQ+ clients are being challenged in unprecedented ways, as barriers are built in all directions around them, obscuring access to rights and wellness. The same is true for our q***r colleagues, and of course ourselves, if we identify with the rainbow family. Part of ethical care is nuance - both intuiting and using strong clinical reasoning to discern how to support LGBTQ+ clients comprehensively and free from stereotypes or assumptions. Oftentimes marginalization is a part of what a client may be struggling with, in one way or another - however, marginalization does not define our LGBTQ+ clients.

This workshop will discuss effective treatment protocols and best-practices in caring for your LGBTQ+ clients through the full range of their life - including marginalization, struggle, self-medicating, and more; as well as identity reclamation, vision, empowerment, and purpose. It will also include space for Q & A.

Affective neuroscience--the study of how emotions actually grow the brain and nervous system--shows that most of our psychological, intellectual, and even physical growth depends on attachment patterns we (or more correctly, our brains and bodies) learn during infancy. It also demonstrates how early developmental or relational trauma hurts not just our feelings but our cognitive and behavioral capacities as well, making us susceptible later to psychopathology. With hobbled capacities for self-regulation, self-reflection, self-differentiation, somatic awareness, and insight into self or others, s*x addicts can’t tolerate long-term intimacy.
