I absolutely LOVE that Lawmakers are getting FED UP with the monopolistic practices of CVS Caremark and other PBMs. This is a Lawmaker in Louisiana outraged by CVS’s lying and scare tactics as Louisiana is trying to pass the same law Arkansas just passed banning PBMs from owning pharmacies and manipulating the payment system in their state.

Sullivan Drugs of Carlinville is converting to a new pharmacy system on Tuesday June 3rd that will feature many advancements in technology as well as patient features. Unfortunately the credit card terminals will not go online until mid day on Wednesday, therefore for the next couple days, we will only be accepting check or cash. PBMs need removed from U.S. Healthcare now!!!

PBMs are supposed to lower the cost of drugs but they do exactly the opposite. No other country has PBMs yet the United States has the most expensive medications in the world. Why?? Because the top three PBMs were allowed to siphon 873 BILLION dollars out of the U.S. Healthcare system last year alone, using unjust, monopolistic practices. This money was STOLEN from consumers, employers, taxpayers and independent pharmacies. About 9 pharmacies a day were forced to close across the U.S while we lost 80 pharmacies in Illinois alone in 2024.

The PBM issue needs fixed NOW before it’s too late!!!!!

I was just informed today that one of my classmates is closing his family’s pharmacy that has been in operation for 128 years and he has run for 32. It’s one of 9 pharmacies that goes out of business EVERY Day in the U.S. The unleveled playing field for independent pharmacies is unsustainable and should be absolutely ILLEGAL but it’s not just independent pharmacies that are struggling. Schnucks and Target were forced to sell their pharmacies to CVS (which owns one of the biggest PBMs). Rite Aid just declared Bankruptcy and Walgreens lost 9 Billion Dollars last year and just financially collapsed, being forced to sell to a venture capitalist . They already closed 1200 stores this year with another 1200 on the books to close. In the last 10 years, Walgreens net worth went from 100 Billion dollars to 10 Billion because of PBMs. If this issue is not fixed, there will only be PBM owned pharmacies(CVS, Express Scripts Mail order and Optum Mail order) and everyone will be stuck with high prices and absolutely No customer service!

It's not that Walgreens didn't modernize or couldn't compete with Amazon. The 124 year old company is being squeezed to death by monopolistic pharmacy benefit managers.
