I will never forget my first yoga class. I had to borrow a mat because I didn't own one.

As I sat down and made an attempt to center myself, I was immediately reminded that I hadn't eaten anything that morning. My stomach was growling so loud that I think my face was the actual color of a beet. I felt so out of place. I DID NOT BELONG HERE. I was so afraid I would mess up a pose or even worse...FART.

After the initial warm-up, we started moving through a series of beginner poses and I felt as though I couldn't keep up. The instructor was extremely patient and continued giving me instructions on how to shift from one pose to another.

I had worked up a sweat and thought - "this is how it is going to end...." many poses later...we were lying on our backs on our mats. We were instructed to relax and place our palms up towards the sky for savasana or co**se pose. My brain screamed 😱 "WTF is this black magic? This is Yoga? We are lying down like co**ses?" What I didn't know is that this was the BEST POSE EVER.

I share this long winded story to say that we are all nervous about going to class, bodily functions, and if we are doing yoga right. I still get nervous and then I remember that it is about leaving class better than you were when you arrived. ❤ KP

What is Yoga? It isn't just twisting your body into complicated poses and trying not to die. And it isn't expensive yoga pants and fancy coffees. (Although, those would be a bonus.)

Yoga means "to yoke" or to "unite". It is harmony of mind, body, and soul. Yoga takes many forms and the practice of each individual is different. You can practice Yoga through poses (asanas), breathing (pranayama), and/or meditation. Speaking from personal experience, I started practicing poses (asanas) about 5 years ago. I am just now adding my breathing and some meditation.

Do you have to be good at yoga? NOPE. Yoga is a practice...a journey....not just a destination. 🧘‍♂️

Welcome to the Kendra Leora Yoga Project!! My goal is to share my love for the practice of Yoga and my experience while pursuing my Yoga Teacher Training certificate. Yoga helped me through one of the most difficult times of my life. It isn't about just fancy poses, expensive yoga pants, and perfect bodies. It is about a journey of healing and is for everyone.
