Ever have one of those weeks where you’re not really hungry in the evening AND/OR life is so crazy full that grabbing something quick is what you can do? Me too!
This has been dinner this week, but it’s fresh and nutritious. I was reminded at a faculty potluck cookout recently how much I enjoy this. So, I grabbed the ingredients and mixed up a bowl. Super easy, and I even made it into nachos a few times by melting some cheese on top.
What is your favorite quick & easy meal to prep and have on hand? Share in the comments!

It has been one week since I presented “Reaching the Whole Student and Whole Educator in the World Language Classroom” at the PSMLA Spring Workshop at Messiah University.
I had a fantastic time with such a great group of World Language educators sharing strategies for them to take care of and support themselves and also how to bring this into the classroom to best serve their students as well.
I’m so grateful for the invitation and opportunity, as presenting these things I’m so passionate about always re-inspires me, too! I feel excited to share more here and to serve all educators and connect with and grow this Balance For Educators community!
Thanks again 😊
I’m currently booking PD sessions for groups, schools, and districts. If you want me to present this workshop in a general way that could be applied to any content area, please reach out!
I’m also accepting new Balanced Life Mentoring clients. If you’re curious about this, check out the link in my bio and book a complimentary call to chat about it!

As teachers, we need to be true to ourselves, to not only have a fulfilling career but also to have the most impact with our students. While the curriculum may provide the structure in our classrooms, we must remember the human element. We’re not just teaching “rote subjects” but rather we’re teaching young humans who are finding their way. Trust your training, your experience, and your instincts. Adjust your plans when needed and be sure to bring a little of your own spin into the subject matter. It can make such a difference—not just in how you feel about teaching, but also in how your students connect with and take in the material!

Let’s talk about authenticity with our students. When you bring a little of “you” into the classroom and curriculum, it not only models courage and self-acceptance for your students, but you’re also setting an example - they also get to see what it’s like to follow one’s passion.
While setting boundaries with your students is important, it’s okay to share a little of your daily life and interests as well. It can inspire them to take action with their own interests!

𝑩𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏…
I’ll admit, some days, teaching can feel exhausting. Fortunately, I’ve developed tools that I use every day to not just survive the school year but truly enjoy my career and my life, beyond the classroom walls.
One strategy I use: First, I pause. Pausing is a helpful way to feel grounded and in the moment. Then, I focus on one small, manageable task to move my teaching forward.
Remember, it’s the little steps we take consistently that pave the way for the big wins.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or anxious… reach out. I’m here to help you figure out how to create balance in your life, in and out of the classroom.

Not everyone will understand or agree with your teaching style - that IS okay.
Here are three thoughtful questions to reflect on, to gain clarity and confidence in your teaching style:
1. Are you prioritizing your students' needs and well-being in your decisions and teaching methods? Or is the focus only on their academic success, and not so much on their emotional growth and confidence?
2. Aside from the pressures to conform or outside criticism, are you staying true to what you believe is most important for your students? Does your teaching style align with your core values?
3. Are you creating a classroom environment where your students can grow? Curiosity and open-mindedness are important, both for you and your students!

𝑩𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏…
When you’re feeling a little lost in your lesson planning, ask yourself this question: What do my students need most?
Sometimes, it might be academic guidance; other days, it might be a listening ear or pressing pause when things feel a little out of control. It might mean adjusting your plans or spending extra time on a topic. Serving your students isn’t just about delivering the lesson plan and issuing grades, it means being attuned to their unique needs and taking the time to respond mindfully, with empathy and intention.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the pressure of covering everything in the curriculum. But really, there is no single right way to teach. Your unique style is what makes your classroom special.
Here’s how I see it:
Focus on what makes the content engaging and relevant to your students.
If your students are engaged, they will more easily absorb the material.
Don’t rush through the lessons. Depth and connection are more impactful than speed. Trust that even with taking that time you and your students gain more in the end.
Be sure to bring your own approach to teaching and trust that it will come together.
Seek out support when needed.

Without a doubt, we need lesson plans to guide us in teaching our students, but…
What your students may remember most after the school year ends is what they learned beyond the traditional lesson plan.
How to be patient with one another, how to celebrate the small wins, how to work in a team environment and encourage one another. Or simply the moments of kindness that they received from you or their peers. These memories will help shape who they become.
Of course lesson plans are important, but don’t discount the importance of the non-tangible lessons as well.

As educators, we do more than deliver lessons. Every day is an opportunity to bring our passions into the classroom! While many of us are required to follow a strict curriculum, there are ways to interject what we love - what we’re passionate about - into our everyday teaching.
For me, I teach Spanish to middle schoolers but weaved into my class periods, I also teach my students about mindfulness, breathwork and balance.
When you teach from a place of joy, and put your own personal spin on your lessons, it creates an environment where students are eager to learn. And where you enjoy teaching so much more.

Hello and thanks for visiting! I’m Amy, and like you, I am both a teacher and a student every day. I am grateful to teach a variety of subjects, including yoga, mindfulness, essential oils, and Spanish. I am a Pennsylvania native and have been practicing using all of these empowering tools for many years. I’m a constant seeker of balance in my own life and enjoy nothing more than weaving all of these passions together and sharing them via classes, workshops, writing, and more to serve others as they bring balance to their lives, too. I also love infusing these gifts into my work as a public school educator. I am a strong believer that I teach not only a content area - I teach kids. Kids are ultimately trying to figure out this crazy thing we call life, too, and that involves so much more than learning how to conjugate a Spanish verb.
I began my Spanish teaching career in the Pocono Mountains, teaching high school for 7 years. I started my yoga journey when a friend and fellow teacher invited me to take Kripalu yoga classes after school with a group of colleagues. Since my move to Carlisle, PA in 2007 to teach Spanish at the middle school level, I have felt a strong connection to this town and the surrounding communities. Here I found a yoga community that has changed my life and deepened my practice. I am truly grateful for all of my teachers along the way who inspired me to continue to dive into this practice and study. I feel strongly that yoga and mindfulness can benefit anyone and that these skills are especially important to teach to today's youth. Incorporating these practices, alongside using essential oils and other natural solutions to take care of myself each day has brought me such joy and gratitude and contributes to me living a bountiful and balanced life...most days, and it takes work!
In addition to holding a Bachelor of Science and a Masters degree in Education, I received my 200 hour and 300 hour Yoga Teacher Certification through Pranakriya School of Yoga Healing Arts. I’m currently continuing my study with Pranakriya, pursuing my 95 hour Children’s Yoga Teacher certification through the Pranakriya Kids School of Yoga and am a director of the Making Yoga Philosophy Accessible to Kids module in this program. I am also trained in Kids and Tween Yoga through Yogi Beans studio in New York City. I have studied with Mindful Schools, completing courses including Mindful Educator Essentials, Mindful Communication, and Mindfulness and Difficult Emotions. I enjoy taking yoga classes with a variety of teachers, reading, and traveling - especially to go on retreats to take time for myself and experience the growth that happens as a result.
How can I help you to create YOUR most balanced life? I’m ready to share natural and sustainable solutions with anyone who finds themselves thinking “I’m seeking Balance For My Life!” Let’s get started - send me a message, share your story, and we’ll work together on the path to living a bountiful and balanced life.
