Due to a water main break in the area of South Hanover Street and Noble Boulevard, Personal Care and the Bedford Terrace, Colonial, Harmony, and Heritage Independent Living apartments are currently without water service. The rest of main campus is under a Boil Water Notice.

Staff are working with residents to continue to meet their needs under these circumstances.

We are so grateful that we live in a community that supports and appreciates one another! Last week, members of the Amvets Post 274, The Ladies Auxiliary and The Sons of the Post, provided Independence Day gifts for all of our veterans.

Even though the weather changed our plans, it couldn’t dampen our patriotic spirit! Thanks to the flexibility and teamwork of our staff and residents, we still found meaningful ways to celebrate the 4th of July. It’s a blessing to come together in gratitude for our freedom and the country we call home.

We're celebrating with picnics, games, food, music, and event artwork - like these creative fireworks canvases made by residents!

We experienced our fair share of storm damage this week, but the challenges we face often give us eyes to see our blessings as well. So today, we're counting our blessings:

🙌 All residents and staff are safe and uninjured!
🙌 Many employees stayed late and/or came back to work to help after the storms.
🙌 Staff used their personal cellphones and hotspots to ensure residents got the care they needed.
🙌 Arthur Funk & Sons, Inc., Construction Services is working on our Personal Care construction, but members of their team shifted gears to help us with storm cleanup we couldn't do on our own.
🙌 Our emergency generator was effective, and the new connection to our kitchen freezer/fridge kept our food safe, ensuring uninterrupted meals for residents.
🙌 As a continuing care retirement community, PPL prioritized our power needs.

This is just a small sampling of the goodness we've experienced. Please add to our list by commenting with blessings you've witnessed this week ...

7/2/25 Edit: We're back to operating as usual, with full power and internet/phones back online. 🙌 Thank you for your patience!

9am Edit: Chapel Pointe is up and running with full power to all buildings!

Our internet and phones are still down campuswide, but our information technology partner hopes to have these utilities restored by lunchtime. With the help of cellphones, staff have been able to provide uninterrupted care for residents.

Power has been restored to our main building where our residents in Personal Care and the Households live. PPL is onsite working on a transformer, so we're hopeful that power to our Independent Living apartments will be restored soon. Independent Living residents are welcome in the main building and can use their call for help pendants if there's an emergency.

We also have a team looking into our phone and internet outages, but they are not up and running yet.

We were thrilled to welcome children and volunteers from Global Kids Harrisburg this week in a unique partnership! Their mission is to empower children from refugee families to live successfully through tutoring, teaching practical skills, providing service opportunities, and more.

The kids spent time conversing with our residents, shared stories, savored some delicious ice cream, and enjoyed playing co****le! What a unique and rewarding way to serve others, while also having fun ourselves! 😄

🦀🌊 Seafood cravings satisfied! Some of our residents had been dreaming of a seafood feast, so today we brought the ocean to them with seafood bisque, fried oysters, cat fish, crab imperial, and more. What a delicious way to celebrate summer! 🐚🍽️

When it’s too hot for anyone to want to go on a bus ride, we shift gears and have an impromptu ice cream social instead! With strawberry season coming to an end, the strawberry sauce was a particularly popular topping and sparked conversations about strawberry picking, jam making, and canning. 🍓🍦

One of the best gifts you can give yourself and your family is a plan for the future.

Independent Living resident Richard stays active, connected, and supported at Chapel Pointe. “I was very fortunate to be able to move in at age 63,” he says. “The younger you move in here, the more you will enjoy it.”
