Symbolically the Winter Solstice marks the death - and then the rebirth - of the sun, as the steady lessening of daylight over the last six months is now reversed - and the sun begins its long journey back toward Summer.

For hundreds of thousands of years people have turned towards the light in the darkest depths of Winter by lighting candles, making bonfires, or burning Yule logs - to symbolize the return of the light. This marks the Winter Solstice as a glimmer of hope in the dark and a sign of life renewing even though we may not see it.

Something we all need in grief.

Wishing you a peaceful Winter Solstice and sending love, light, and support for your loss.

Day 16 of my advent

I have become so interested in community this year and watching how many of us have splintered off in modern life.

A ‘village’ is not about numbers but the willingness to allow people in and to really see you.

I wonder if next year we can aim for more community time within our busy worlds and watch how it waters parts we didn’t know were thirsty?

For now? Know this. You’re not alone and you needn’t hold it all. Put something down.

Much love
D

Tomorrow, December 21, marks the Winter Solstice. Grief is like the dark night of the soul... the loneliness and isolation that comes with it can be overwhelming. And yet for millennia the Winter Solstice [the change from the longest, darkest night of the year] has reminded us that no matter how dark the night, we can light a candle and show up with warmth and support, comfort and kindness for ourselves. This master class offers insight into how to find glimmers of life and loving connection with our loved ones while we grieve loss without losing the respect and honor due our experience.

This master class is one from the series 'Navigating the Holidays in Grief' by trauma-informed Holistic Grief educator and Grief Coach and Founder of Mourning Goods, Pamela Ann Noxon. Pamela shares her wisdom and holistic conscious and loving style to help support grievers.

We wish everyone a peaceful and meaningful holiday season. Please my friends, remember to take care of yourself through the holidays:

Get rest - Winter is traditionally a time to slow down and our bodies remember that

Get enough healthy movement - easy movement like walking, dancing, yin or gentle yoga help regulate the nervous system

Stay hydrated - dehydration stresses out your whole system

Honor and feel your feelings [I promise you it helps to feel them all rather than hold it in - we become like pressure cookers if we don’t allow emotions a healthy outlet]

Express yourself in a way that is new to you: writing, singing, humming, chanting are. releases that help create

Create something without judging it; paint, draw, color, move, write poetry or a song, sculpt, cook.... make anything..... the key is to allow the creative force [life force!] to flow- it is not about the finished product - it is the doing that matters

Be mindful of over-stimulation [the music, parties, rich food, alcohol, stimulants, forced gaiety, constant events and plans, more family time... check in to see when you’ve had enough]

Do what matters to you - choosing how and when [and sometimes if] to celebrate is an authentic, empowered way to navigate the season

Connect with your reasons for celebrating life and love - both for the ones you love who are here and those who have passed on -

Do something purposeful that honors those who have passed - give a gift they would’ve wanted to give - of time, attention, kindness, or support

Do something for someone who has less than you - people, animals, charities of all kinds are out there on the front line spreading love and humanity in the world - if you are donated out then share their posts to spread the word about their work

Find inspiration in the little things - a cup of tea, a beloved pet on your lap, the way nature reflects the seasons wherever you are

Be kind to others and to yourself

And remember you are so loved. With love Pamela❤ ❤ ❤

Come visit me today at the Makers Arcade Holiday Fair today until 8 pm and tell me all about your Loved Ones! ❤️ I may ask you….

1. Who are you missing? Name them ❤️

2. Tell me about them… if I were from another planet, and I didn’t understand human beings at all, what would a ______________ be?

3. What is one of your favorite stories about them?

4. How did they see you?

5. What did they teach you?

6. How do you live on for them and continue the best part of them in your own life?

7. If you were to get a sign or a dream or a symbol of something that would make you say “there’s no way that’s anything but them connecting with me!!” What would it be? Could be numerous things, but maybe just pick the first one that pops into your head.

8. What do you want to say to them?

9. What can you do to honor them in the world?

Sending you so much love and supprt during the holidays.
