After 3 years of supporting newborn families during the day and overnight, here are some of the things I love about daytime care! 🌞

1. Care for the whole family.

Moms get social support, compassion, listening, hands-on help, a place to vent and ask questions, etc.

Dads get peace of mind in taking a little time for themselves, without leaving their partner alone.

Babies get care from another safe adult.

Siblings get parents who are refreshed, and maybe some yummy treats, too!

2. Supports maternal sleep and breastfeeding.

In the early days of breastfeeding, it’s important to build supply through regular expression of milk. That means night wakings - whether pumping or having baby at the breast.

Daytime doulas can help moms recover some of that sleep by caring for baby while mom naps in the midday.

3. Nourishing food.

Adequate nutrition is essential for healing after birth, and having the energy to care for a little one! But it can be so hard to feed yourself in the newborn period.

Having a doula cook in your home is awesome! You get to have a say over what you eat, it’s healthier than takeout, and the smell of food being lovingly cooked in your home is nourishing on a soul level.

Meal planning together can also be fun, because food connects people. It’s a chance to remember who you are and what you love, outside of baby.

4. It feels like a luxury.

I often hear new parents’ concerns about sleep in the newborn period, and concern about how life will look upon returning to work. Getting help in the daytime can feel like a “luxury” for some, that needs financial justification.

But what if honoring yourself, feeling nourished, and thriving was enough? Societal norms have changed, but our need for postpartum support has not. In today's fast-paced world, we need community care more than ever.

One of the things I love to ask during interviews with expecting moms is, "what's your primary love language?" Sometimes it takes people by surprise. They're used to sharing the baby's due date, where they plan to birth, their pregnancy symptoms, and maybe their fears. But this question feels so personal. So... about THEM.

I ask this because if I'm going to support you, I want to know what lights you up. What helps you feel grounded? What makes you feel like YOU?

Getting to know your baby and recovering from birth can feel like A LOT at times. It can be disorienting and overwhelming. Exhilarating and joyful, too -- but a lot. So I find that just doing the "little things" can go a long way. The more I do this work, the better I am at intuiting what will bring a little spark of joy. For this mom, it was home organization and efficiency. And her text message brought me joy, too!

I know it will take some time to fully integrate this experience. But right now I feel confident saying that it has moved me deeply, and changed me for the better. I can't wait to bring this healing work to San Diego families.

Endless gratitude to Charlotte, Mariela, and Rosamaria, for your inspiration and efforts in making this happen, and countless hours of translation! Thank you to all the sisters who shared of themselves on this journey. Thank you to the teachers and those who fed, transported, hosted, and sheltered us. Thank you to the land, and that plants that gave their lives for medicines. Thank you to all our ancestors. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Hey hey! I'm finally back with my first podcast in a full YEAR! Wow. Short and sweet this time -- no interview, just me, talkin to you. What are you letting drop? Find it on my website at the link in bio, or on Spotify or Apple Podcasts. 🌱🧡

I was recently asked about the difference between postpartum doulas vs. nannies in an interview, and I thought it was a great question. So here's my answer! 🙂

What's most important to you in postpartum support? 💕

Sending my love, honor, and respect to all the mothers today. To my mother and my mother's mother. To my husband's mother and all our ancestors. To Mother Earth. To my beautiful clients. To all the teacher-mothers I've known, who walked before me, taught me, and inspired me. To those wanting to be mothers, mourning mothers, missing the mothers they never had. And especially to those mothers who've lost their children due to senseless acts of war, and children who've lost their mothers. I honor you and I pray for a better world for us all. ❤️🌷
