📢 Important Refill Update! 📢

Starting now, we will no longer process prescription refill requests sent from pharmacies. We’ve been getting too many outdated or incorrect requests that slow things down and cause confusion.

✅ Need a refill? Just call our office directly so we can review and refill safely and accurately.

We know this is a change, but it helps us give your child the best care possible. 💙

Thanks for understanding!

New data from the CDC shows an increase in children with autism spectrum disorder. The numbers are increasing because of better and earlier screening, identification and access to autism evaluations. This is encouraging because when children are identified early, appropriate supports and services can be better tailored to their needs. Pediatricians want all children to thrive, including autistic children, and they are here to help families navigate screenings and diagnoses. Autistic children demonstrate behaviors that are different from some of their peers, but they are children who deserve love and belonging like all children. MMR vaccines are available at many local pharmacies, the health department, or your doctor’s office!

With the growing number (48 reported) of measles cases in west Texas I’ve started getting questions about the need for a vaccine booster. I pulled out this image from the last outbreak that might be helpful. Even more helpful is this article about why or why not boosters might be needed:

And, this article that tells where in Texas the cases are located:

What to expect if your child has flu-like symptoms (fever, body aches, cough, congestion, decreased energy/appetite and potentially vomiting, diarrhea, rash, sore throat):

1. It’s probably Flu A. We are seeing a LOT of influenza A in our community right now.
2. We’re seeing a lot of kids with Flu who have fevers lasting 5-7 days. Sometimes the fever goes away for a day and then comes back.
3. We are seeing more rashes with flu than usual this year.
4. It’s not too late to get a flu shot. The kids who are the most ill from flu this year are mostly unvaccinated.
5. Tamiflu is only effective if given in the first 48 hours of illness (can shorten, not eliminate disease course) and is only recommended for high-risk individuals since it comes with significant side effects.
6. You can treat symptoms with acetaminophen or ibuprofen (if over 6 months old). We do not recommend cough or cold medicines for children.

*We know taking care of a sick child is tough. If you feel like your child is continuing to worsen after 5 days of illness, or if you are worried about other symptoms, please call your pediatrician’s office.

As we head into these holiday weeks, we appreciate your remembering that illnesses are booming and that we will have fewer doctors in the office each day so our team members and doctors can take time with their families.

If your child needs a same-day sick appointment, please call as early in the day as possible.

We wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season!
