Did you know there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. Protein and fat are essential in your diet but your body is capable of producing all the sugar it needs without eating carbohydrates. Not to demonize carbohydrates. Some people can tolerate them in the diet just fine. But for those with insulin resistance (associated with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease etc) carbohydrates should be minimized as much as possible.

🧠 Controversial Yet Crucial:

Obesity is not a result of laziness or lack of willpower—it's a complex, chronic disease influenced by genetics, environment, and biology.

Let's be better together and:

🧬 Recognize the genetic and hormonal factors at play

🩺 Treat obesity with the same compassion and medical rigor as other chronic diseases

💬 Eliminate stigma and promote understanding

Shaming individuals doesn't lead to weight loss—support and evidence-based interventions do.

It's time to change the conversation and approach obesity with the empathy and seriousness it deserves.

💊 Unpopular Opinion:

Weight loss medications like Zepbound/Wegovy are powerful tools—but they're not magic solutions. Relying solely on them without lifestyle changes is like expecting a car to run without fuel.

I've seen patients achieve remarkable results when combining these medications with:

🥗 Balanced nutrition

🏋️ Regular physical activity

😴 Adequate sleep

🧠 Stress management

Neglecting these aspects can lead to muscle loss, nutritional deficiencies, and even weight regain. Remember, medications are adjuncts, not replacements.

Medications can aid the journey, but your daily habits drive the destination.

Unpopular opinion:
Your diet doesn’t need a fancy name.
It needs to be simple, sustainable, and something you’ll still be doing next year.

Forget keto. Forget carnivore.
Fuel your life. Not someone else’s trend.

Unpopular opinion (but medically true):

💥 “Weight regain after dieting isn’t your fault—it’s your biology.” 💥

As a physician and someone who has lived this journey, I’ve seen it firsthand: we blame people for "failing" to lose weight or for gaining it back, when the truth is our bodies are designed to fight weight loss. Literally.

Your body sees weight loss as a threat to survival. It slows your metabolism, increases your hunger hormones, and decreases the hormones that help you feel full. That’s not lack of willpower—that’s human physiology.

This is why sustainable weight loss isn't about crash diets, guilt, or shame. It's about long-term strategies that work with your biology—not against it.

And yes, that may include medications like GLP-1s, muscle-building resistance training, better sleep, stress management, and most importantly—a lifestyle that’s doable long-term.

The truth is: If we treated weight like the chronic medical condition it is—instead of a personal failure—we’d have a lot more success stories.

🧠 It's time we change the conversation.
❤️ It’s time we treat people with compassion, not judgment.
🏥 And it’s time medicine catches up with the science of weight loss.

Heartbreaking 💔

An unvaccinated school-age child has died from measles in West Texas, according to Texas health officials. AAP President Susan Kressly said, “As a pediatrician, I am heartbroken to learn that a child has died from measles. This is a tragic and devastating loss, and our thoughts are with the family and community affected. One death from a preventable disease is one too many.” The measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine protects children from serious illness. However, when immunization rates drop in a community, measles can spread and put children at risk.

“No parent should have to experience the loss of a child to a preventable disease. Vaccines save lives. Pediatricians are here to talk with families about their child's health, including how they can access vaccines. We must support immunization programs so that children in every community get the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong,” said Dr. Kressly.
