Functional neurosurgeon Mark Hoeprich, MD, is turning back Parkinson’s symptoms for many of his patients through a procedure called deep brain stimulation. Tremors, rigidity, and other Parkinson’s symptoms can make activities that were once second nature much more difficult, if not impossible.

Patients seek out Dr. Hoeprich in part because he offers many people a chance to get back the things they’ve lost.

We were proud to support Goodman Campbell summer research student, Olivia Simcox, as she presented her research findings at the 2026 American College of Osteopathic Surgeons Neurosurgery Mid-Year Updates in Charleston, SC. Olivia took the stage this weekend with an oral presentation: “Flow Diversion on ACOM and Basilar Tip Aneurysms: Reconfiguration of the Circle of Willis.”

Olivia was part of the 2025 Goodman Campbell research internship for medical students. She spent the summer working with Dr. Krishna Amuluru and the Interventional Neuroradiology team evaluating innovative treatments for neurovascular disorders.

Moments like these reflect the value of mentorship and research as we impact the next generation of physicians.

Recently Aidan Rezner, a Goodman Campbell gap year student, delivered an oral presentation: “Is Patient Satisfaction Static at 5 Years After Surgery for Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy? A SpineCORe™ QOD Review.” at the 2026 Annual Meeting of the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS).

From April 9–11 in Miami Beach, this year’s conference brought together leading spine surgeons, researchers, and innovators from around the world to advance the science and practice of spine care.

This kind of research matters because it helps us better understand long-term patient outcomes—so we can set clearer expectations, improve care, and ultimately help our patients achieve better, lasting results.

Aidan received a prestigious award for the top independent paper, a significant academic and professional achievement. Congratulations, Aidan, on a job well done! Opportunities like this to share research and engage with global experts are what continue to push our field forward.

Your spine care should be as unique as you are.

When it comes to spinal fusion, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Factors like your overall health, lifestyle, and individual needs all play an important role in shaping the best path forward—and can influence both your physical and mental recovery over time.

In the April issue of the Journal of Neurosurgery (JNS), Goodman Campbell physicians contributed to several articles highlighting how patient-specific factors guide clinical decision-making and surgical planning. The takeaway? Personalized care isn’t just important, it’s essential to achieving the best possible outcomes.

If you’re considering spine surgery, having a care team that looks at the full picture can make all the difference.

The plan was to build a U-shaped wall in front of his daughter’s house to shore up the yard and create space for new flower beds before summer’s end. Jim Harless had hauled and stacked most of the stones and dirt necessary to complete the 55-foot-long project when he leaned over to pick up one more block when they struck — ”electrical charges” radiated down both his legs.

Dr. Kushal Shah recently connected with the Franciscan Health Indianapolis Family Medicine residents.

During the session, Dr. Shah presented a series of case studies focused on when to refer and how to approach complex brain and spine conditions, offering practical insights for future primary care providers.

Educational opportunities like this reinforce a shared commitment to strong partnerships with referring providers and residency programs. By helping family medicine residents recognize and respond to complex conditions, patients benefit from more timely, appropriate care and improved outcomes.

Thank you, Dr. Shah, for your time and expertise.
