ASPIN was proud to attend the 2025 NAMI Indiana State Conference! 💜💚
Thank you to NAMI Indiana for hosting such an engaging and insightful event. From the thoughtful welcome by NAMI Indiana Executive Director Barbara Thompson and DMHA Director Sara Sailors, to powerful conversations around innovation in mental health, peer and community collaboration, youth and rural engagement, and su***de prevention, the day offered meaningful takeaways and connections that strengthen our shared work across Indiana.
Our team — Michele, Keny, Patty, Luna, and Mitch — was honored to represent ASPIN as both exhibitors and participants alongside so many dedicated partners and advocates!

ASPIN Expanding Behavioral Health Career Pathways for Rural Youth

Affiliated Service Providers of Indiana (ASPIN) is pleased to announce an award of $1,200,000 over three years from the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) Pathways program, an initiative by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

With this funding, ASPIN will establish a network of organizations to engage youth in innovative, peer-driven behavioral health care support programming while offering career pathway opportunities in behavioral health in rural high schools located in Kosciusko, Montgomery, and Owen counties. This project will introduce youth to behavioral health careers, including ASPIN’s Certified Community Health Worker (CCHW) training program, and facilitate admittance into formalized training programs to enhance their career outlook.

ASPIN has partnered with Bowen Health, Centerstone of Indiana, and West Central Indiana Area Health Education Center to conduct a needs assessment of available behavioral health pathway programming in rural communities and the implementation of Teen Mental Health First Aid in rural high schools, an evidence-based training for teens to learn how to help each other through hard times. A rural youth advisory committee will be developed to guide the peer-driven behavioral health efforts.

At least 20 rural youth will receive training and certification as Community Health Workers, meeting the state certification requirements for CCHWs, based on the Centers for Disease Control-Endorsed Core Competencies for Community Health Workers. Upon graduation, these students will be prepared to fill critical roles in Indiana’s behavioral health workforce.

Individuals and employers interested in learning more about ASPIN’s RCORP Pathways program should contact Karissa Morris, Special Projects Coordinator and Learning Collaborative Point of Contact at kmorris@aspin.org.

ASPIN is pleased to announce we have been awarded a $500,000 per year for four years from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to expand and enhance behavioral health workforce training across Indiana. 📢

This critical funding will support ASPIN’s Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Program for Paraprofessionals (BPP), advancing the organization’s capacity to prepare Certified Community Health Workers (CCHWs) and/or Certified Community Health Workers/Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialists (CCHW/CPRSS) to meet growing needs across the state; especially in high-need, high-demand, and rural communities.

Through this grant, ASPIN will expand didactic training with a dedicated Youth Mental Health curriculum, including trauma-informed care, and increase hands-on, community-based experiential learning in partnership with organizations across the state. The program will strengthen competencies for working with children, adolescents, and transitional-age youth (TAY) who have experienced trauma and are at risk for behavioral health disorders, including anxiety, depression, and substance use disorder. Each year, 18 scholarships will be awarded for Level I (pre-service) training, resulting in 72 newly trained and certified CHWs or CCHW/CPRSS professionals over the four-year award period. ASPIN aims for at least 35% of Level I completers to advance to Level II (in-service) training, with seven students per year enrolling in ASPIN’s U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program, totaling 28 apprentices over the funding period. Graduates of the program will be prepared to provide support services to children, adolescents, transitional-age youth, and their families, particularly in underserved and rural areas.

Affiliated Service Providers of Indiana, Inc. (d.b.a. ASPIN) is a 501 (C) 3 not-for-profit network that operates four major service lines: third party administration, training and workforce development, health improvement, and grants management. The mission of ASPIN is to provide innovative educational programs, workforce development, network management, and collaborative program development with healthcare entities, member organizations, and partners. “Together, we aim to reduce health disparities, strengthen the healthcare workforce, and promote whole health management across communities.”

Happy Labor Day from ASPIN! ✨

Labor Day was first celebrated in 1894 to honor the achievements and contributions of American workers and to recognize the strength, dignity, and progress they bring to our communities.

Today, we proudly highlight the work of Community Health Workers (CHWs)—whose dedication to health equity, advocacy, and compassion embodies the true spirit of this holiday. 💙

📌 Please note: Our offices will be closed on Monday, September 1st, in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen on Tuesday morning, September 2nd.

Wishing everyone a safe and restful holiday! 🌟

Behind stronger families, healthier communities, and brighter futures you’ll often find a Community Health Worker!

Community Health Workers are the everyday heroes who lift our communities higher. Their impact doesn’t end when this week does — it continues in every family helped, every neighbor supported, and every barrier broken.

💙 Helping people find their footing after tough times
💙 Opening doors to healthy food, safe homes, and quality care
💙 Guiding pathways to recovery
💙 Bridging gaps in education and resources
💙 Growing new connections — and hope — where it’s needed most

At ASPIN, we believe the future of public health is person-centered, empathetic, and powered by CHWs.

In the spirit of Community Health Worker (CHW) Awareness Week and a significant step toward expanding access to quality recovery support services, ASPIN is pleased to announce the launch of our new Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (CPRSS) and Community Health Worker (CCHW) Dual Certification Training Program! 📢

This initiative is designed to equip individuals with lived experience in recovery with the skills, knowledge, and certification needed to support others on their recovery journeys and assisting with their health care needs and addressing social drivers of health.
