Have you ever thought or said this before?

Food can sometimes be deceptive when calories are concerned 🤔 what LOOKS like not very much may actually contain a considerable amount of calories (and vice versa).

Use this graphic as a reference and a reminder that volume and caloric content changes drastically between different foods. Even though these meals LOOK like they have the same volume (aka amount of food/drinks) the calories are almost double on the right side 🤯

Consistency is the KEY 🔑

Keto and every other FAD diet out there have the same mechanism of action 👉🏼 they are a tool for helping you maintain a caloric deficit

Do you have to follow one of these diets to see progress?

Absolutely not.

There are endless ways to create a deficit, but not all of those will work for you if you aren’t able to stick with it consistently, so find what works for YOU! 👏🏼

Another thing to keep in mind is how you will maintain your progress when it’s time to come out of a caloric deficit. If the habits and tools you’re using to lose weight don’t seem sustainable long term, get curious about what habits WILL be sustainable for you. Our bodies can’t remain in a deficit forever, so planning ahead is another key to maintaining those changes!

Build the perfect Burrito Bowl 🤌🏼🔥🤩

Step 1: Pick out a carb to be the base of your meal. If you’re paying attention to calories, this is where you can be strategic with the option you choose!

Step 2: Choose your protein - just try to get a full serving of 25+ grams in!

Step 3: Pick your toppings with healthy fats, additional protein, and micronutrients in mind.

Step 4: Check that you have a good portion of fiber within the meal and adjust some choices if needed.

Avocado Chicken Chipotle Melt 🔥👩‍🍳

RUN, don’t walk to try this one out 🤤 Save this recipe for when you need it!

Ingredients:
2 slices whole grain bread
4oz shredded chicken breast
1/4-1/2 avocado (depending on preference)
1 handful spinach
1 slice Gouda cheese

Sauce:
1/4 cup plain greek yogurt
1 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
Salt and garlic powder to taste
Garlic powder to taste

Instructions:
1. In a blender or food processor, pulse the sauce ingredients together until smooth
2. Add the shredded chicken and mix with the sauce
3. On one slice of bread, stack one slice of Gouda, the chicken and sauce, avocado, spinach, then top it with the other slice of bread.
4. Bake at 350F for 12 minutes or air fry at 350F for 6-8 minutes.

“Cutting weight” isn’t typically necessary as an athlete (most of the time it’s not). Being in a calorie deficit is pretty counterproductive to athletic performance 🤷🏻‍♀️ but there are a few things you can do to mitigate the effects.

Having less calories (aka less fuel) means that you have less energy to expend during training and competition. Keep this in mind when considering going into a calorie deficit and how it may affect your performance. Plan meals around important training sessions or events to maximize your energy and prioritize recovery the best you can ⚡️

What does it actually look like to “fit” a piece of candy in with your meal? 🤔

Like in the example above, when you want to add a food (in this instance candy) to a meal, you can adjust your other food choices and the portion sizes of each food to fit your needs for the day. Ideally, this will look like a balanced meal still!

If you’re craving a piece of candy that mainly consists of carbohydrates, adjusting the portion size of your main carb within the meal will help make space in your caloric budget for the day and keep your macronutrients balanced.

This means you can enjoy the candy + stay on target for the day ✅ best of both worlds!

So you want to work on nutrition but unsure if a Registered Dietitian is a good fit for you? Cause they just teach the food guide pyramid and MyPlate….


While this may absolutely be true for some RD x client interactions, this is not how our RDs work. It’s an outdated approach. The dietitians at AlignYOU are trained to take a more personalized approach.

We give our dietitians the TIME to spend in sessions vs rushing them through for the sake of $$$$ AlignYOU dietitians take 75-90 minutes in initial sessions and 30-60 minutes for follow ups. Follow ups are scheduled sooner (ideally every 2-4 weeks initially) vs waiting to see you back until 6-12 months.

We mastered the insurance game AND offer our patients more 1-on-1 time to actually get into the nitty gritty. That’s when growth happens!

The “good” and “bad” labeling of food needs to go away already. Let’s take away the morality and just define food for what it is.

Labeling carbs as “bad” has completely demonized carbs in this “simple carbs” group- including fruits 🤦🏻‍♀️ Are we really demonizing fruits?!

Also, let’s not forget to mention “natural honey” that the holistic world now defines as a “super food”….but that’s a simple carb? Sooo….

The labeling is leading to double standards and confusion.
