Do you ever wonder what your yoga teacher is actually thinking of you during class? *Spoiler*: it’s not “her alignment is wrong” or “he’ll never get on the cover of Yoga Journal with that pose.”⁣⁣

In my classes, you’ll often hear me say, “My favorite thing is to look up and see everyone doing something a little different.”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
When I offer a cue, it’s a doorway to explore. It’s not a command.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Sometimes a pose will be exactly what your body is craving.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Other times your hips will RSVP “nope” and ask for blocks, breaths, or a slow wiggle instead of warrior-stance-stillness. 🧘🏻‍♀️ ⁣⁣

It’s never too late to set a mantra! Today is my kids’ last day of school, so I’m choosing this ☝️ as my summer mantra to help keep me in a good headspace and remind me to use the power of breathwork 💨 to keep things in perspective. ⁣⁣

In my yoga 🧘🏻‍♀️ and breathwork classes, I usually offer a Sanskrit word, phrase, or sound as a mantra (instead of a profanity). Mantras can be super helpful for regulation. They help to lower stress, anxiety, and blood pressure. The sound waves vibrate through the body, activate the vagus nerve, and help to relax and restore the body and mind. ⁣⁣

It’s not just you – it’s biology!

When the outside world feels chaotic and depressing and you’re doing your best to live with a chronic health condition, you may be feeling guilty and frustrated that, even with American Thanksgiving coming up, practicing gratitude feels like an uphill battle.

The fact is that our brains are designed to have a negativity bias in order to keep us safe.

Think back to the last time you had a fear about your health or saw something awful on the news. How long did those thoughts ruminate in your head and impact your day(s)?

Now, recall a compliment you received - maybe some positive feedback at work or a sweet comment from your partner. How long did that feeling last? Probably not that long.

Studies show that while negative information produces increased activity in the cerebral cortex; neutral and positive stimuli don’t elicit as strong of a response. That’s the high-level science of why you might not naturally feel grateful.

But the good news is that there are ways we can step in and begin to rewire our brains to make it easier to be more positive.

When we think good thoughts, it creates positive sensations in our bodies. Our brains like that, and it then makes it easier to find other good thoughts.

At first, you’ll have to look for these opportunities and consciously focus on them. It doesn’t need to be anything earth-shattering. Simply dwelling on the beautiful sunset, the first sip of your coffee, or something positive in your body can start to shift things.

If you do this consistently for a couple of times each day, you can slowly rewire your brain’s neural pathways and you will start to notice deeper changes in the way you think, feel and act in very impactful ways.

Ever followed one of the popular autoimmune diets, but not noticed a big difference in your symptoms?

You’re not alone. That was my experience, and it is true for most of the women I work with.

We know that diet is essential to our health and immune system. But, the truth is that if you’ve been eating clean and trying to improve your gut health and you still have fatigue, pain, depression, and inflammation, it’s time to look beyond what you’re putting in your body.

A huge component of gut health is STRESS!

When stress triggers your fight or flight response, it slows or even stops digestion so that all of your body’s resources and energy can be diverted to staying alive in the face of a perceived threat; and, when this happens, all of the good food, nutrients, and even supplements you’re putting in your body cannot be optimally digested and absorbed.

If you’ve followed an autoimmune diet for more than 30 days and you still aren’t noticing any significant changes, it may be time to explore what else is contributing to your symptoms. Luckily – that's my area of expertise. 😊

Welcome to Vyana Wellness and Yoga!

Hi, I’m Kristin Wedding and I founded Vyana Wellness and Yoga and The Autoimmune Fatigue Solution program to help busy, high-achieving women with autoimmune disease who grapple with bone-crushing fatigue, brain fog, pain and mood issues so that they can be energized, balanced, and living the life they intended, despite their disease.

I get it, because I’ve been there. In 2012, during what “should” have been a high point in my life (married, dream career, first house, baby girl, etc.), I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I was exhausted and miserable. My health was so out of control. I was sick of under-performing at work because I was tired and had constant brain fog. And I was constantly on the edge of losing my temper at my kids and husband out of sheer exhaustion. But the thought of trying to do one more thing seems impossible. I didn’t recognize myself anymore.

I decided things had to change. That’s when I made a promise to myself and decided to fight back and do the hard work and find sustainable solutions instead of trying yet another “band-aid” gimmick that didn’t work.

Giving up on the life I intended to live and worked so hard for was not an option. Having constant bone-crushing fatigue was not an option. Feeling like I had no control of my health was not an option. I was unwilling to accept that there was nothing I could do to manage my autoimmune disease. I was all in.
