I’m excited to update you on the success of my collaboration with Indiana University research scientist Dr. Mithun Sinha. Through this effort, we have identified a possible etiologic or contributing mechanism for the condition commonly referred to as Breast Implant Illness. We would like to sincerely thank our study participants for their support of our clinical study on Breast Implant Illness (BII) Clinical Trial number NCT05736354.
The scientific knowledge gained through the resources you provided has enabled us to identify a class of fat derivatives termed oxylipins which could activate immune pathways. This could be a factor associated with the manifestation of symptoms reported by women experiencing breast implant illness.
Recently, we received approval for a study (IRB-approved and NIH funded) through which we will be assessing patient symptoms post explant. We need longer outcomes data, so we hope to hear from patients who explanted with me a year or more ago. If you are a study participant and would like to be included in this project, please reach out to my office (317-575-0330) so we can provide you with the opt-in consent.
