Fall is here! 🍁 This season is all about embracing the shorter days with some cozy activities such as knitting, reading, journaling, cooking, baking, hot baths, and sipping on some warming tea.

It is the Metal season, where the climate is dryer and we’re more susceptible to lung and intestinal infections. The Metal element governs the Lungs + Large Intestine in Chinese medicine so it’s a great time to be kind to these organs.

Moisten them with pears, walnuts, h**p, flax and chia seeds, good fats such as grass fed butter, coconut oil, and ghee. Squashes are great too.

If where you live isn’t too cold in the Fall, seaweeds can also help moisten the intestines and repair mucus membranes. Think slimy foods help moisten dryness!

It’s also a great time to cut back on smoothies, salads and raw fruits and veggies. Our digestive fire isn’t as strong during the colder months because our body is utilizing its Qi to regulate our body temperature.

That’s why we crave warming comfort food in the colder months and lighter meals such as salads and fruits in the warmer months.

As you can see, Chinese medicine is all about living in harmony with nature. That includes how we eat, how we spend our time, and how we interactive with the world around us.

Proud mom moment! My son’s art that won an honorable mention in the 2021 Art and Poetry contest is now part of the exhibit shelter at the Ford Ord Dunes State Park. 😍

Matt took the kids there randomly to play on the beach today and Era saw it from the parking lot!

We didn’t even know it was up already! Our hearts are so full of love and gratitude. Thank you for choosing our little guy to be a part of this! 🐳 ☀️

Happy Mother’s Day to all the humans who mother all day everyday. 💪 Mothering can be in many forms. And I see it everyday in my practice.

In Chinese medicine this gift to mother and nurture comes from the Earth element in all of us. It is innate, a trait we all are born with.

The ability to nurture our children, partners, animals, plants, family and friends, our co-workers or patients, all stem from the Earth element and this natural act of mothering is what warms the hearts of others.

I am so grateful for the surrogate mothers that have come into my life that have shown me the ways. I continue to learn so much and how to tap into my own Earth element so I can nurture myself and those around me.

I hope you’re in a place where your Earth element is supported so you can continue to nurture and mother those around you. I celebrate you. And send big hugs! 🌍 💖

I can’t believe Hana Moon 🌙 will be 3 in a couple of months. Feels like yesterday she was in my belly. And also like eons have gone by. Time is a trip.

I’m so grateful this little being blessed our family and allowed us to really nest during an intense time for humanity. Hana has grounded our family in so many ways when the world was so uncertain.

I’m also so grateful for this medicine that has helped me and so many other mamas in pregnancy, labor, postpartum and beyond.

Rooted in 4000 years of tradition, East Asian medicine supported me through both my pregnancies and childbirth. Each one different, unique, intense and magical. ✨☀️🌙

Thankful traditions that are time tested stick around and continue to be passed on to future generations. 💛💛💛💛

Healing comes in so many forms. ✨ I will always advocate and educate all forms of healing from acupuncture and Chinese medicine to chiropractic and craniosacral. As one of my master teachers use to say, “There are many roads to San Francisco.” ~ Dr. Sharon Feng

It’s been a while! ✨ I just wanted to say “Hi!” and remind you of the importance of wearing a scarf when it’s cold and windy out. In Chinese medicine, we have a special area called the Wind Gate at the nape of the neck where “evils” or pathogens are known to enter.

This area is special and we will cup or gua sha this area to help someone who may be coming down with a cold/flu. If you act early, many patients won’t fully get sick as the pathogen doesn’t have time to root into the deeper levels.

I have a huge scarf collection and it’s one of my favorite accessories! Spring winds are upon us here on the Peninsula. Stay cozy friends! 🥰

Happy Lunar New Year, Year of the Yang Water Tiger! ✨🐯✨

We are all embracing the Yang Water Tiger over here, feeling fierce with our health + healing, embracing the unpredictability of the Yang Water, and steeping in the Tiger’s lone path.

Did you know mama tigers raise her cubs alone and that male and female tigers come together only to have their cubs? Otherwise, adult tigers live alone.

When I say we’re all steeping in the tiger’s lone path I don’t mean we’re lonely or isolated. But rather, accepting that we have everything we need, within ourselves, right now.

The tiger lives alone because she knows she has everything; she does not waver in her confidence to protect her young, to teach them the skills they need to survive, and to be independent themselves in only 2 years.

This year will be pivotal for me and my family. It’ll challenge us in ways that will be life changing and heart opening. It’ll create new neural pathways of belief, healing and growth. It’ll allow for us to breakthrough constructs and old patterning to reveal new opportunities.

We are ready. Patiently waiting. Ready to pounce. And with a fierceness in our hearts that is undeniable. Are you ready??? 💛🐯

Happy Winter Solstice! ✨the darkest day births the beginning of light. With each passing day, our light begins to grow, and only after the most extreme darkness of today.

In Daoism, this is illustrated in the Taiji symbol ☯️. As you can see, the dark side is growing at the bottom, the large bulbous area at about 6 o’clock. The moment right after the largest area of darkness, the lightness of the symbol is shown, the birth and growth of Yang.

This may seem hard to explain but just think of this, on Winter Solstice, it’s the darkest day, shortest day, the least amount of light.

The very next day, the days begin to get longer until we reach summer solstice, the longest day with the most brightness. The very next day the days begin to shorten. And so on.

These cycles of life and seasons are a reflection of our inner landscape. It’s the ebb and flow of our energy, mood, sleep cycle and our attunement to our environment and others.

These two correspondences…yin/yang, fire/water, feminine/masculine, and function/form are interdependent and cannot exist without the other.

When we embrace each side and accept the season as our guide to our health and well being, we are supported by a greater force that is undeniable. The universe around us. This is the Dao. ✨

How I embrace the Yin/Kidney cycle:
- more sleep
- more bone broth, soups + stews
- more fresh ginger tea
- more warming spices
- more hot epsom salt baths
- more reading + introspection
- less screen time
- less raw foods
- less sweating
- less talking

How are you embracing the Winter season? Many Yin blessings to you and yours! ✨
