📚✏️ Back to School = Back to Communication!

A smooth start means making sure your student’s AAC system is ready to go.
A Back-to-School AAC Checklist helps parents, teachers, and SLPs:
📌 Confirm the device is charged & updated
📌 Check vocabulary for upcoming classes & activities
📌 Make sure the voice is still preferred
📌 Share important info with the school team

When the AAC is ready, the student is ready to learn, connect, and shine.

🌶Salsa… with a side of problem-solving!
Today’s therapy activity was making salsa, but it didn’t exactly turn out as planned. And that’s okay! When things don’t go perfectly, we get amazing opportunities for our AAC users to:
1. Talk about what happened
2. Problem-solve and make changes
3. Share opinions (good or bad!)
4. Use rich, real-world language in the moment
5. Talk about how it feels when expectations aren’t met

Success isn’t just completing a task with the intended outcomes. It’s the conversations, connections, meaning, and language we learn and use throughout that makes success!

Everyone experiences feelings, and everyone deserves a way to manage them.

Teaching emotional regulation strategies isn’t just about calming down. It’s about recognizing emotions, knowing what helps, and being able to communicate those needs.

For AAC users, this might mean:
Having quick-access buttons for “I need a break” or “I feel frustrated”
Using visuals to identify emotions
Practicing calming routines like deep breathing or stretching
Role-playing how to ask for help

When we give AAC users the tools to understand and express their emotions, we’re empowering them to navigate the world with confidence and connection.

How do you practice emotional regulation with the AAC users in your lie?
