Today our therapy sessions honored Patriot Day in a special way. Kiddos colored hero-themed pages and shared who their personal heroes are — from parents and teachers to first responders and community helpers. It was a beautiful reminder that heroes come in all forms, and even the smallest voices have the biggest hearts. 💙 ❤️

As kids head back to school, transitions and routine changes can feel extra challenging—but with the right support, they don’t have to be overwhelming.

At Westside, we see how small shifts (like leaving the park or starting homework) can feel big for kids.

A few simple strategies can make a big difference:
✔ Use routines and visual schedules
✔ Give gentle cues and countdowns
✔ Break transitions into smaller steps
✔ Offer encouragement and celebrate wins

With empathy and consistency, kids build confidence moving through change!

Transitions are a normal part of every child’s day. Some kids can switch gears with ease, while others find change much harder. Leaving the playground, wrapping up screen time, or heading off to school can all feel like big hurdles.

Our Joliet kiddos enjoyed a movie day where they practiced real-life skills like waiting in line, buying a ticket, and asking for popcorn and candy—so much fun! 🍿🎬

📚✨ Balancing school and therapy can be tough—but Illinois law protects families. Under Section 26-2a, absences for therapy (ABA, speech, OT, PT, feeding, counseling) are valid and not truancy.

These absences can even open doors to support, like schedule adjustments or a 504 Plan/IEP.
